AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Clearwater finds that the changes to the sign regulations as set forth in this ordinance are desirable in order to bring the cumulative surface area limitation for political signs into conformity with the norm in Pinellas County, to require proper authorization for political signs placed on privately owned property, to prohibit political signs y,. on any public property and not merely public right-of-way, and to delete certain redundant provisions and otherwise clarify the terms of the political sign :'.?•s,, regulations as set forth in this ordinance, now therefore, t-. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA: Section 1. Subsection (2) of Section 134.008, Code of Ordinances, is °'E? amended to read: Sec. 234.008. Exempt signs. In addition to the signs which are allowed within the city in accordance with other sections of the sign regulations, the following enumerated signs shall also be allowed and shall be exempt from the permitting requirements and procedures contained in this chapter: (2) Political signs. Temporary political signs may be placed without a permit in accordance with the following: a. Political signs may be displayed for not more than sixty (60) days prior to an election or referendum and shall be removed within seven (7) days following the election or referendum. b. Prior to erecting political signs which pertain to a local election, candidates or their representatives 'shall notify the development code administrator of their intent to erect such signs and shall acknowledge their familiarity with and understanding of the requirements of this subsection seetion letter or by a form to be provided for such Purpose. . 1 • ..tom _ ,._ '..?,' . ?q?,a '?- ?•?V < ? ? ? .? ? ? . ,. Political signs in residential, office and institutional zones shall have a cumulative surface area not exceeding six (6) square feet per property and such signs in commercial and industrial zones shall have a cumulative surface area not exceeding thirty-two (32) twenty-four (24) square feet per property. d,---No polit-ical signs shall be placed on any privately- owned-property without the authorization of the property owner or tenant in possession of the Property. e 4. No political signs shall be placed et-depes4ted anany public prmerty,_includiny_but not limited to win any public right-of-way ep on any tree, i39 + sti r except that political signs may be temporarily displayed on the premises of and during a candidates'. forum or campaign speech made by or on behalf of a candidate or political issue. Any political sign placed 4n the publie right of-way in violation of this provision may be removed immediately by an officer of the police department, the development code administrator, the traffic engineer, or other authorized city personnel. Any sign so removed may be disposed of without notice or compensation. f.
