ITEM # 1 Cal,l to Order - Former Chair Swanberg called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. at the Carpenter
,Complex. 651 Old Coachman Road. '
ITEM #2 and ITEM 3. Car,penter Complex: Overview of Facility and Partnership with Philiies and TaliI' -:- Mr.
Lee McDaniel, Mr. Rus Carter and Mr. Phil Cheek explained the facility's impact on the community, both from
the Phillies and user groups such as S1. Petersburg College, Litlle Leagues and others. The Phillies bring $6-$7
, million into the City economy; Mr. McDaniel complimented City staff for its high level of cooperation.
ITEM #4 Approval of Minutes of Parks and Recreation Board Meeting of March 18. 2002 - Member Lindner
moved to approve the minutes as submitted. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously.
ITEM #5 Correspondence - Letter to Steve Swanberg from Mayor Aungst;..., The letter noted 44 members of City
,boards had committed to attend the appreciation dinner then did not show up, costing the city $887. Members
decided to make recommendations at theJune meeting.
ITEM #6 Old Business -
a) Capital Project Up,date - Mr. Dunbar updated the following projects:
Skate Park - On hold pending college decision onJoe DiMaggio property; Sl. Petersburg College is in
process of valuing the property.
City-wide Muster Plan - Going to Commission Work Session on Muy 13. Reaction so far is positive. .
North Greenwood Recreation Co'mplex - Project three weeks ahead of schedule. Main pool hus been
poured. Board will tour in November.
Ross Norton Complex - Archite~t expected to be awarded May 16.

, Glen Oaks Golf Course Improvcments - Mr. Dunbar discllssed tlm conccrn at losing valuable green
space, such as portions of Glen Oaks, as the City looks to parklands it already owns as sites for other
services: Member Appe"tt 'reminded members Glen Oaks land was sold to the City at a discount by citizen
Fred Fisher with the stipulation it be used as a golf course. Member Applct moved the board recommend
to City Commission that the Commission take into account the original intent for use of the Glen Oaks
Golf Course land and to consider that green space a limited resource and all efforts should to be made to
retain it consistent with the City's policy in this area. The motion was duly seconded and passed
unanimously. '"
b) Upcoming Recreation Events - Mr. Dunbar noted upcoming Fun 'n Sun events including Elvis Rocks
Downtown on April 24. Smooth Jazz Concert 011 the Bay this weekend. and the Illuminated Night Parade
May 4 followed by Florida Orchestra concert and fireworks on May 5. Mr. Dunbar invited board members,
and their families to PhilIies Fun 'n Sun night May 3.
ITEM #7 New Business - , '
aj , Budget Sub-commiuee Report - Rescheduled for next meeting. Ms. Cashman said the Public Relations Sub-
. commiuee is meeting in May and asked members for input on the next issue of the Fun in the Sun Program
, Guide.
b) No meeting in May since it is Memorial Day. Next meeting is June 24. 2002, at MSB.

, Member Lindnernoted fee changes were going into effect at McMullen without having been brought before the
advisory board 'again. '
