I'. , ' Ir.. \. ,Proceedings of the .Pension Advisory Committee Meeting of July 19, 1995. ,Puge I ' Present: " Ed Hooper, Chairman Fred' Rutley, Member Richard Breest, Member Deborah Ford, Human Resources Department H. Michael Laursen, Human Resources Director John Stafford The meeting was called to ,order at 9:32 a.m. . The two newly-elected members,' Ed Hooper and Richard Breest, were present and had been sworn in prior to this meeting. Fred Ratley moved to nominate Ed Hooper as Chairman. Richard Breest and carried by a majority. Fred Ratley, moved to approve' the minutes of June 22, 1995. The motion was duly seconded by 'Richard Breest and carried unanimously. The mOlion was duly seconded by Nothing new, has been received on Emllnuul Hutchinson. (;, Discussion ensued concerning the election of Committee members under the new Pension Plan. The process for election of the three employee-selected members will be the same as it is under the current Pension Plan. The current members will remain on the CommiUee until such rime as an election can be held following the effective date of the new Plan. The Committee considered the request from J esse Dawsey, Solid Was t c Equipment Operator, Solid Waste Departmentt fora regurar pension based on years of service. Richard Breest moved to grant Mr. Dawsey's pension. The motion was duly seconded by Fred Ratley and carried unanimously. The Commi ttee considered the rcq ues t fro m J oh n S t a reo rd, for mer Fleet Administrntort Fleet Maintenance Dhlsiont General Services Dcpartmcntt for a job-connected disability pension. Discussion ensued concerning his request. Mr. Stafford submitted letters from Drs. Cosma, Herrero, Patel, and Ellis and Mr. Chick in support of his request. A question was raised by Mr. Hooper as to whether or not Mr. Stafford was eligible to submit a request since < he has already terminated. Mr. Laursen advised him there was a legal opinion on this issue which slates that the, employee's status is not an issue when applying for benefits. Mr. Hooper asked that the City Attorney be present at the next meeting (August 2nd)., Mr. Breest asked if the members could contact the doctors for further information and was advised that this was acceptable. Donald Long, Assistant Fleet Administrator, has received a relurn of his pension contributions after receipt of the legal opinion in this matter. As requested at the lnst mecting, Secrctury Mike Laursen has forwarded a memo to the City CRt; Manager regarding the pension deductions but hus not yet received a response.
