Jon Marcin, Risk Management Specialist The meeting was caJJcd to order at 9:35 11.m, Jim Heinz moved to approve. the minutes of April 5, 1995. The motion was duly seconded by Ed Hooper and carried unanimously. With respect to the request from Emanuel Hutchinson, Solid Waste Worker, Soli d Waste" Departmcnt,for a job-connected disability pension. Mr. Hutchinson's Workers' Compensation doctors will not write him new letters. It was requested that the' Committee waive its policy' in this instance and accept information from Risk Management since Mr. Hutchinson has been, declared permanently and, totally disabled by Workers' Compensation. This was not acceptable to the Commi'tlee because making an exception, in this instance will set a bad precedent. The Committee asked that Mr; Hutchinson be sent a letter advising him' that he will need to provide the necessary documentation before a decision can be made. l..> With respect to the request from "Ronald Pownall, Police Sergeant, Police DC)lartmcnt! for a job-connected disability pension. no action could be taken today because all members were not present. This will be voted on at the May 3, 1995, meeting providcd all members arc in attendance, .1 Lois Mal'oon, Librarian III, Lihrary Department, appeared before the Commiuee regarding buying back pension service for a period of four years and four months when she was not allowed to participate in the Pension Plan, Ms. Maroon was employed by the City .in 1978 and resigned in January, 1985. She withdrew her pension contributions at that time, She withdrew her resignation and returned to City employment in July, 1985, However. during the time she was gone, she turned 45 and was not allowed to join the Pcnsion Plnn upon her return. She did join the Pension Plan in 1989 when gi ven the option to do so. She is now requesting credit for the four years and four months between the time she returned in 1985 and the ti me she joined the Pension Plan in 1989. She does not feel she should make any contributions for this time period since she contributed to Social Security during this time.. Mr, Hooper recommended that no action be taken until the next meeting. He also requested that Assistant City Attorney Miles Lance be present at this meeting. to disclISS this matter. The Committee considered the requcst from Forrest Saylor, Jr., Solid Waste Equipment Opcrut'or, Solid Waste Departlnent, fora regular pension bnsed on years of service. Jim Heinz moved to approve Mr.. Saylor's request. The molion was duly seconded by Ed Hoopel' und carried unanimously. Mr. Revello presented'a packet containing reports, etc., to further support his request.
