Proceedings of the Pension Advisory Commillce Meeting of March 1, 1995. . Page Present.: Ed Hooper, Member ' Fred Ratley. 'Member Deborah Ford, Human Resources Department Miles Lance., Assistant City Attorney Arlene Heger. Library Assistant Michael Szuba, Fire Lieutenant The meeting, was called to order at 9:40 a.m. The minutes of February 15, 1995. need to be corrected to reflect that Carol A. Richard. Maintenance Worker . I, was approved for pension rather than Richard A. Carol.' Fred Ratley moved to approve the minutes of February 15, 1995, as amended. The motion was duly seconded by, Ed Hooper and carried unanimously. With respect to the request from Kenneth Castelli, Tree Trimmer, Parks & R e ere a t l 0 n Department, for a job-connected disability pension. Mr. Castelli presented updated letters from Dr. Walker and Dr. Dodson which are acceptable to the Committee. Mr. Castelli will h a v e an IME on March 2nd. The Committee asked that someone from Risk Management attend the meeting on March 15th with a copy of Mr. CastelJi's Workers' Compensation file. The Committee will vote on this at the next meeting if the IME report has been received and all members arc present. G. The Committee considered the request from Michael Szuba, Fire Lie ute n ant, Fire Department, for a job-connected disability pension. Mr. Szuba presented letters from Dr. Robert Sanchez and Dr. H. Andrew Hazlitt stating he has u heart problem that precludes him from continuing ~s a firefighter. After reviewing these letters, Mr. Hooper asked Miles Lance. Assistant City Attorney, w he th e r this would be covered under the Firefighters' heart and lung bill. Discussion ensued. At the conclusion. Mr. Lance stated his opinion that this would be covered under the presumption bill. After further discussion, Ed Hooper moved that Mr. Szuba be senl for an IME. The motion was duly seconded by Fred Ratley and carried unanimously. If this is done before the next meeting and the report is received, the Committee will vole on it. Arlene Heger, Library Assistant in the Library Department. addressed the Committee concerning her pension eligibility date. Ms. Heger was employed full-time on September 19. 1988. She changed (0 part-time on April J 8, 1994. She has now been returned to full-time as of February 20. 1995. When Ms. Heger's status was changed from fulJ.time to part-time, she did not withdraw her pension contributions. There is a question as to how this should be handled. After discussion with Mr. Lancc, it was determined that Ms. Heger should have her original pension eligibility date advanccd by the number of days she was in a parHime status and she be given credit for the previous amount of time she has paid into the Pension Plan. Ed Hooper moved that pending any information contrary to this motion, Ms. Heger's service from September. 1988, to April, 1994, be credited as pension service for purposes of computing (mil ,pension benefits. The motion was duly seconded by Fred Ratley and carried unanimously. The meeting recessed from 10:07 to J 0:35 a.m. .:,: / ',;', ,~:',:,,;:: ,'.':,'.,:,....,< ".. :,'.
