TRUSTEES OF THE EMPLOVEES' PENSION FUND MEETING August 4, 1 997 The City Commission of the City of Clearwater, meeting as the Board of Trustees of the Employees' Pension Fund, met in regular session at City Hall, Monday, August 4, 1997 at9:00 A.M., with the following members present: ITEM #2 - Minutes: Trustee Hooper moved to approve the minutes of the July 14, 1997, meeting. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. ITEM #3 - Reauest for Acceotance into Membershio: (:) The City Manager presented the recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee to approve membership for the employee(s) listed below: a) David Marshall b) Joahne Levy c) Jeffrey Kehrer d) Jonathan Oludumila e) Randall Bulger f) Sergio Sierra g) William Meyer h) Clyde Renfroe i) Anthony Pearn j) William Hodgson k) Wendy Tolbert n Michael Mitchess m) Stephanie Skyrme n) Tonya M. Bonds Trustee Johnson moved to accept the recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. o mpf0897 1 08/04/97 " , t' ~ ITEM #4 ~ Reauest for Pension: The City Manager presented the recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee that Frank Palombo, Robert S. Anderson and Donald D. Reed be granted regular pensions under Section(s) 2.393 and 2.397 of the Employees. Pension Plan. Frank Palombo was employed on March 28, 1977, and his pension service credit is effective on that date. His pension will be effective on August 1, 1997. Based on an average salary of approximately $57,714 per year over the past five years, the formula for computing regular pensions, and Mr. Palombo's selection of the 100% Joint & Survivor Annuity, this pension will approximate $31,528 annually. Robert S. Anderson was employed on March 21, 1977, and his pension service credit is effective on June 18, 1977. His retirement will be effective on August 1, 1997. Based on an average salary of approximately $39,984 per year over the past five years, the formula for computing regular pensions, and Mr. Anderson's selection of the 50 % Joint & Survivor Annuity, this pension will approximate $ 22,709 annually. Donald D. Reed was employed on October 28, 1974, and his pension service credit is effective on April 21, 1975. His retirement will be effective on July 1. 1997. ,:.2[1\ Based on an average salary of approximately $41,575 per year over the past five f ",~~I years, the formula for computing regular pensions, and Mr. Reed's selection of the 1 00% Joint & Survivor Annuity, this pension will approximate $24,926 annually. u Mr. Palombo's, Mr. Anderson's, and Mr. Reed's pensions were approved by the PAC on July 10, 1997. Section 2.393(p) provides for normal retirement eligibility when a participant has completed twenty years of credited service in a type of employment described as "hazardous duty" and further specifically defines service as a Pollee Captain or Police Officer as meeting the hazardous duty criteria. Trustee Hooper moved to accept the recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. ITEM #5 - Death Benefit to be Granted: The City Manager presented the recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee that Patricia A. Renner, widow of Jeffrey A. Renner, be granted a death benefit under Section 2.397 of the Employees' Pension Plan. Jeffrey A. Renner was employed on February 14, 1 977, and his pension service credit is effective on that date. Mr. Renner passed away on August 6, 1996. Patricia A. Renner, widow of Jeffrey Renner, applied for death benefits on June 26, 1997. Mr. and Mrs. Renner were legally married on April 19, 1985, thereby entitling her to death benefits under provisions of the City's Pension Plan. mpf0897 2 08/04/97 ... ".. "'-"\ ." The amount of Mrs. Renner's pension will be computed by the Finance Department. This pension will be effective September 1, 1996. Based on an average salary of approximately $37,393 per year over the past five years and the formula for computing death benefits, Mrs. Renner's benefit will approximate $20,032 annually. Mike Laursen, Human Resources Director, reviewed the case. He stated Jeffrey Renner had approximately 19 % years of service as a firefighter with the City of Clearwater. Patricia Renner is the designated beneficiary of the death benefit pension. In response to questions, Mr. Laursen indicated Mrs. Renner will receive a standard survivor benefit, the death benefit has been approved by the PAC, and Mrs. Renner will receive the benefit in a lump sum effective September 1996. Trustee Johnson moved to accept the recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. ITEM #6 - Other Business: - None. ITEM #7 - Adiournment: ..
