Kennedy, Jr., Chairman Larry W. Lord, Secretary Frank Daniels R. G. Whitehead Representing City Attorney Jr. Chamber of Commerce Police Chief City Clerk Absent: Rev. T. M. Johnston Chester B. McMullen, Jr. Ministerial Association Chamber of Commerce i?,,~A ~ The Chairman called the meeting to order and announced that the first item on the agenda was the request of the Red, White & Blue Stores, represented by the Clearwater Chapter No. ll, Disabled American Veterans. The Chairman outlined their application and called on Mr. John Burke, Commander of their Chapter, who was .present. He explained that the Womans' Auxiliary was given lists to phone for used merChandise, that these Red, White & Blue stores were formerly known as DAV Stores. He further stated that the local chapter has a contract to receive $lOO a month with the women of the auxiliary to receive some renumeration. He stated there would be no house to house solicitations and that the only method used would be telephoning the persons on the lists. Questions arose as to the value of the merchandise being given and how the local chapter was going to determine their profits and whether they were going to receive a sufficient amount to justify the solicitation. Mr. Burke stated that Mr. Tietjen would have most of the answers as he had spearheaded the program locally. Chief Daniels moved that consideration of the application be deferred until the next meeting of the Board. Mr. Lord seconded the motion which carried unanimously. The Chairman outlined the application of the Mental Health Association of Pinellas County, Inc. Mrs. Gerald Berry was present and explained that gifts and money were sent to the hospitals at Arcadia and Chattahoochee. Upon a request from the Board Mrs. Berry promised to furnish past and expectedn income and expenditures for the local area. Chief Daniels moved to approve the application of the Mental Health Associa- tion of Pinellas County for their solicitation during the period of September 1, 1973 to December 15, 1973 subject to receipt of financial statement from Mrs. Berry. Mr. Lord seconded the motion which carried unanimously. The application of the Clearwater Shrine Club was outlined by the Chairman with Mr. Leonard Gordon, Harry E. Stoddard and a Mr. William Lewis being present representing the Club. They explained that this was the first time they had attempted th1s type of solicitation and they had no financial statement to present. They showed a tabloid that they would give out for a donation - not for sale. Mr. Lord moved to approve the request of the Clearwater Shrine Club for solicitation September 28th and 29th, 1973. Chief Daniels seconded the motion which carried unanimously. The next application was that of the Christian Youth Sports, Inc. which the Chairman outl;ned for the Board. Mrs. Mary Ann Eifert represented the group~~ated she was there to answer any questions the Board might have on the matter. Chief Daniels moved that the application of the Christian Youth Sports, Inc. to conduct a solicitation on September 1, 1973 be approved. Mr. Lord seconded the motion which carried unanimously. o The application of the Chairman for a December 1, 1973. as submitted. Mr. unanimously. The application of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, North Suncoast Chapte~, was the next application to be presented. Chkef Daniels moved to approve the application of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, North Suncoast Chapter, to solicit funds during the period of October 15, 1973 to December 3, 1973 in accordance with the application submitted. Mr. Lord seconded the motion which carried unanimously. the Clearwater Lions Club was outlined by solicitation from September 15, 1973 to Chief DanielS moved to approve the application Lord seconded the motion which carried The application of the Florida Chapter, Arthritis Foundation was outlined by the Chairman who said that the exact dates of the solicitation were not stated and questioned some of the financial statement. Chief Daniels moved to approve the appli- cation of the Arthritis Foundation subject to information of exact dates requested and that they inform the Board as to the income of last year, whether or not the $12,400.00 was all from the fund drive or whether it included other funds such as legacies, etc., and also that they be requested to keep records of finances in Clearwater. Mr. Lord seconded the motion which carried unanimously. On the next application it was noted that the Science Center of Pinellas County had requested a six month solicitation period. After discussion on this matter Chief Daniels moved to approve the application of The Science Center for solicitation from September 2, 1973 to March 1, 1974 as requested. Mr. Lord seconded the motion which carried unanimously. .l ':., ~ The application of the United Way for solicitation from October 2, 1973 to December 31, 1973 was presented. Mr. Lord moved that the application of the United Way for solicitation in accordance with the application be approved. Chief Daniels seconded the motion which carried unanimously. 2.
