04/09/1964 CHARITY . SOLICITATIONS BOARD Minutes Date 6 o CHARITY SOLICITATIONS BOARD April 92 19611 The meeting opened at 1:30 P.M. with the following present: Joseph L. Coggan, Chairman Irving W. Dribben Guy L. Kennedy, Jr. R. G. Whitehead Absent: Jr. Chamber of Commerce Chamber of Commerce Asst. City Attorney City Clerk Police Chief Ministerial Association Willis Booth, Secretary Rev. C. N. Harris The Chairman called the meeting to order and presented the minutes of January 7th and 10th, 196+ for approval. Mr. Kennedy moved.that the minutes of the meetings of January 7th and 10th, 1964 be approved in accordance with copies submitted to each Board member in writing. Motion was seconded by Mr. Dribben and carried unanimously. The application of the Suncoast Chapter National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation was presented for consideration. Mrs. Bonnie Seitz, Executive Director, was present and ex- plained the disease and the purpose of the organization. She explained that 76% of the proceeds of the solicitation went to the National headquarters for research with 25% remaining locally for medical care and equipment. The Board by consent agreed to table action on the application until a financial report of previous drive in St. Petersburg was received and also to confirm the disease and make a check that no other organization's solicitation was being used for the purpose. The application of the Clearwater Little League, Inc. was presented. Mr. Dribben moved that the application of the Clearwater Little League, Inc. be approved. Mr. Kennedy seconded the motion which carried unanimously. The applications of the Pinellas County Society for Crippled Children and Adults, Inc.; American Cancer Society, Pinellas County Unit;and Gulfcoast Chapter, National Multiple Sclerosis Societyt which had been approved verbally were presented for confirmation. Mr. Kennedy moved to confirm the verbal approval of the named applicants., Mr. Dribben seconded the motion which carried unanimously. The Board considered a letter from Richard J. Deeb? a National Director of ALSAC and State Representative from Pinellas County,complaining of the tactics used by the Leukemia Society Inc. in their drive which was held at the same time as the ALSAC Drive and requesting investigation of the activities of the Leukemia Society, Inc.
