Minutes of the Meeting
September 15, 1995

In Mr. Bacon's absence, vice Chair Joanne Laurenti called the
meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. The Board welcomed David Waddell,
new member replacing Trudi Bils. .
Mrs. Kelsey moved to approve the minutes of the last Board meeting
in May. The motion was seconded and unanimously approved. MOTION
CARRIES.
In Shirley Kennedy's absence, Pamela LeClair discussed the Long
Range Planning Committee's meeting this summer. Dr. Hallam
reviewed highlights of the updated Long Range plan previously
mailed to the Board, Dr. Hallam asked for approval of the
revisions to the Plan as submitted. The motion was seconded and
unanimously approved. MOTION CARRIES.
Dr. Hallam distributed copies of the Library Department's 1995-96
operating budget.
Dr. Hallam discussed stand-alone, coin-operated desktop computer
systems now installed at Main, East and Countryside libraries for
public use.
Dr. Hallam is working on overdue recovery legislation. Florida law
prohibits going through the court system for overdue recovery due
to the privacy act (confidentiality). The Board agreed with Dr.
Hallam that overdues should not be ignored,
Board members discussed possible damage to books from the book
returns (spine damage). It was also mentioned that books and
videos sometimes get caught in the Main Library's book drop. Dr.
Hallam will have the book drop examined for possible repair.
Mr. Hunt gave an update of Foundation events: Oct, 2 reception for
Anne Garris at the Beach Library; a cookbook sale on Nov. 2 to be
held at a private residence; and the Cognoscenti Auction on Feb. 19
at Main Library, Some new materials and equipment are being
purchased for the Library by the Foundation.
Dr. Raffaniello moved to adjourn the meeting at 10:00 a.m, The
motion was seconded and approved unanimously. MOTION CARRIES.
