'.~ CLEARWATER PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD Minutes of the Meeting January 20, 1995 Clearwater Public Library 9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. PRESENT: Wilbert Bacon, Chair Trudi Bils Estelle Dunn Brenda Hunter Thalia Kelsey Shirley Kennedy Joanne Laurenti Pamela LeClair Dr. William Raffaniello Lucille Weiss He~bert Wickersham Dr. Arlita Hallam, ex-officio ABSENT: none , ;i GUESTS: Shirley Hunt, GCPLFoundation Chairman Tony Bacon called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Mrs. Laurenti moved to approve the minutes of the December Board meeting as submitted. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously. MOTION CARRIES. I ~"'" I"......) Dr. Hallam reported on the f,?llowing: l) Don Bell"General Counsel in Sandy Mortham's office, is siding with Clearwater on the issue of rental best sellers and is recommend'.ing overturning his predecessor's decision. Dr. Hallam is waiting for this decision in writing. 2) The Library Directors of the Coop recommend going from 5 cents to 10 cents on fines, with a maximum o~ $2.50 instead of $5.00. The Library Directors will go back to their communities with this recommendation; then the recommendation of the Coop Board must be approved by all the cities' commissions. 3) Of 989 surveys completed regarding whether patrons would use Sunday hours at Main Library ,the results were: 46% yes, l3% probably, 12% probably not, and 29% no. Sunday hours will begin February 5 through May 21, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m., closed Easter Sunday. If the trial period is successful, Sunday hours may resume in the fall or possibly a trial period will be conducted at another facility. Each Library Assistant will work one Sunday and each Librarian two Sundays during this sixteen week period. \-J Dr. Hallam distributed a working copy of the Library'S Long Range Plan which has been updated annually. After some discussion, due to the time involved on this issue, Mr. Bacon recommended a study committee be appointed to report back to the Board. The 'following people were selected for this committee to meet on Thursday, January 26, 7:30 p.m. at the Clearwater East Library: Mr. Bacon, Dr. Raffaniello, Mrs. Bils, Mrs. Dunn, Mrs. Laurentit Dr. Hallam, and Mr. Hunt. " Mrs. Kennedy updated the Board on the status of the Suncoast Freenet which should be on line by March 1, pending Internet nadel, installation on February 16. Mr. Bacon reported that Dr. David Berry receivep an award at the City Commission meeting of January 19 for his outstanding service to the Library. , , The next meeting of the Board is scheduled for Friday, February 17, 1995, at 9:00 a.m. in the third floor conference room, Main Library.
