Chairman Pate Hutchens called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m.
The minutes of the last meeting were approved as submitted.
Mr. Hutchens introduced Mrs. Jan Regulski, Chairman of the "Hoopla"
Committee planning the grand opening festivities for Clear~ater East
Library during the week of November 2, 1985, through November 9, 1985.
Events already scheduled include:
November 2:
Evening reception for Friends of the
Clearwater Library members
Afternoon formal dedication with Cecil
Beach, Director of Broward County Library
System, as the main speaker. .
November 3:
A final calendar of events will be ready in August. The weekday events
during the grand opening week might include the following:
Chamber of Commerce "Eye Openerll breakfast meeting;
Chamber of Commerce "Box Lunch" meeting;
drama; book reviews; speakers; use of the library
meeting room for group monthly meetings; International Day;
writing competition for school children in Clearwater;
programming for children only on November 9th including
a puppet show, magician, Pinellas Youth Symphony's
"petting zoo" of musicial instruments, Gibbs High School
Performing Arts; also planned is a reception for
Clearwater area authors.
Board members offered severnl other ideas for the festivities such as
shelf displays of different nationalities, foreign language club
recognition, local publications display, book fairs, recognition of
library employees) reception for other area library board members.
A supplement will appear in the newspaper in October announcing the
library events.

Mrs. Mielke discussed the matter of individual library cards for
non-residents. Presently, the Library charges $50.00 for a family card
for one year. The Library would like to offer an individual non-resident
card and a seasonal,card for individuals and families. The recommendation
from Mrs. Mielke is as follows:

Mr. Panush moved to adopt the recommendation of Mrs. Mielke for non-resident
library card fees. The motion was seconded and carried.
Mrs. Mielke suggested the Library Board join the American Library
Association Trustee Association affiliate membership. The Board would
receive the Trustee Digest, the quarterly newsletter, and ALA Journal
for a fee of $50.00 per year. Mrs. Williams moved that the Board join
the ALA Trustee Association affiliate membership. The motion was seconded
and carried.
Mr. Serrill mentioned the article on DIALOG in Tampa Bay Business
magazine which describes the new service that Clearwater Public Library
System will be offering.
The next Board meeting is scheduled for September 20, 1985,
since the Board adjourns for the Summer months.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:20 a.m.
