The minutes of the last meeting were approved as submitted. Mr. Hutchens
asked Mrs. Mielke to show the videotape recording of the Library agenda
item on Clearwater East Library construction at the City Commission
meeting of October 18, 1984. The City Commission unanimously approved
the low bid for construction submitted from Creative Contractors, Inc.
for $918,000. This figure does not include an entrance canopy ($70,000);
however, the entrance canopy could be added at a later time should
sufficient fun~s be available. The Board discussed the funding issue for
the construction project and the proposed construction period with an
opening date of November, 1985. Mrs. Mielke will be going back before
the City Commission on issues of furniture and equipment budget, book
budget, and opening date.
Mrs. Diller experssed concern over the opening date in November, 1985,
and wanted construction to begin as soon as possible with an opening date
upon completion. Several Board members were willing to give up a few
months' delay in opening in exchange for 5,000 additional square feet.
Mr. Hutchens announced the resignation of Board member Heleno Lanzke.
,
The Board briefly discussed the tentative const1'uction schedul e for
a Countryside library in 1986/87. Mr. Hutchens felt that this might be
up for further discussion after the election in February for two City
Commissioners and Mayor.
~tr. Barnicle discussed the idea of subsidizing non-resident children
who do not have access to a library card due to financial hardship.
Nr. Barnicle reported that Mrs, Wickersham, President of the Greater
Clearwater Public Library Foundation, Inc., has stated that the Foundation

children. Mr. Barnicle also spoke to the Friends of the Clearwater Library
who have agreed to contribute to such a fund. Board members discussed
