(Helen) Diller Mr. Fred Korosy Ms. Margot Pequignot Mrs. Faye Sollid Mrs. Diane Vollbracht Mrs. Lucile Williams Mrs. Linda Mielke, Library Director ABSENT: Dr. David Berry, excused Mrs. Helene Lanzkc, resigned Mrs. Ann \nckcrsham, excused GUESTS: Althea Andersen and Carolyn Moore, Clearwater Public Library Staff Chairman Pate Hutchens called the meeting to order at 9: 35 a.m. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as submitted. Mr. Hutchens asked Mrs. Mielke to show the videotape recording of the Library agenda item on Clearwater East Library construction at the City Commission meeting of October 18, 1984. The City Commission unanimously approved the low bid for construction submitted from Creative Contractors, Inc. for $918,000. This figure does not include an entrance canopy ($70,000); however, the entrance canopy could be added at a later time should sufficient fun~s be available. The Board discussed the funding issue for the construction project and the proposed construction period with an opening date of November, 1985. Mrs. Mielke will be going back before the City Commission on issues of furniture and equipment budget, book budget, and opening date. Mrs. Diller experssed concern over the opening date in November, 1985, and wanted construction to begin as soon as possible with an opening date upon completion. Several Board members were willing to give up a few months' delay in opening in exchange for 5,000 additional square feet. Mr. Hutchens announced the resignation of Board member Heleno Lanzke. , The Board briefly discussed the tentative const1'uction schedul e for a Countryside library in 1986/87. Mr. Hutchens felt that this might be up for further discussion after the election in February for two City Commissioners and Mayor. ~tr. Barnicle discussed the idea of subsidizing non-resident children who do not have access to a library card due to financial hardship. Nr. Barnicle reported that Mrs, Wickersham, President of the Greater Clearwater Public Library Foundation, Inc., has stated that the Foundation would make a substantial contribution to such a fund to subsidize such children. Criteria for such a fund need to be settled. Mr. Barnicle is working on a resolution. Mrs. Mielke agreed that Library staff would ,,,ark, toward formulating guidelines for application to such a fund.
