Chairman Pate Hutchens called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. ~lr. Hutchens
discussed a letter from Board member Dr. Berry concerning his absence from the
Board meetings pending personal business out of town.
Board members briefly discussed the financial disc 105ure form which
was requested of each Board member for the past calendar year.
~Irs. Mielke reported that the bid opening for Contractor for the C learlllater
East Library is scheduled for September 26th at 1:30 p.m., with the final selection
to be submitted to the City Commission at their meeting on October 4, 1984.
Since construction will take approximately one yenT, Board members agreed that
January, 1986, is a conservative guess for occupancy. Mrs. Mielke reported
that the interior design is nearly complete and furniture specifications are
being worked on now.
Mr. Hutchens discussed the article in the newspaper concerning the erp
projections for the library., The Countryside library is shown in FY 1987/88.
The Board discussed whether they should request the City Commission to move
the library up one year. It was agreed to put this item on the agenda for
next month's Board meeting.
Mr. Hutchens sent a card from the Library Board to ~Irs. Ailene Lindsey
congratulating her on her retirement from the Beach Branch Library.
There was much discussion concerning the increase of non-resident fee
from $40.00 to $50.00 effective October 1, 1984. t-Irs. f>.1ic1ke ropol'ted that
many people arc renewing their cards now at the $40.00 feo. Nr. Barnicle
suggested perhaps a fund could be set up to subsidize those people, expecially
children, who cannot afford the $50.00 fec. Perhaps corporations or organizations
with foundations, and the Friends of the Library, could be approached on this
issue. ~Ir. Barnicle will prepare a resolution from the Board to the City
Commission concerning this matter which will be discussed at the November
Board meeting.
