04/16/1982 1 LIBRARY BOARD 11 m CLEARWATE11 PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES OF 11111 MEETING 16 APRIL 1982 Mayor's Confei-ence Room 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. PRESENT: Mr. Homer Royer, Chairman. Mrs. Herbert E. (Helen) Diller Mrs. Arta Gates Mr. George E. Harris Mr. Fred Korosy Mrs. Fay Sollid Mrs. Ann Wickersham Mrs. Lucile Williams Mrs. Linda Mielke,, Library Pirector Ms. Erin Brasfield, Student ex-officio ABSENT: Mrs. Candace 11. Gardner, excused Mr. Pate Hutchens, excused Mr. Walter A. Krick, excused Ms. Alicia Galicki, Student ex-officio Chairman Homer Royer called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. The Board discussed leaving the monthly meetings from May to September subject to call. Board members discussed some City Commissioners' feelings on the library issue and a future referendum. Discussion followed concerning reserving the present two library sites by putting up two smaller libraries (porta-structures). Establishing an endowment fund might acquire private donations to be used for library construction. Mrs. Wickersham offered to make inquiries concerning the legal aspect of establishing such a fund and will report back to the Board on her findings. Discussion ensued concerning the Coconuts Lounge site in Morningside. Concerns expressed included: 1. Lounge would probably need to be rebuilt to accommodate library usage. 2. The facility should be used for a recreation center rather than a library facility. The Board discussed again the possibility of using endowment funds for construction of smaller libraries with the idea of going for a referendum to expand the facilities later. Discussion followed concerning; the possible donation of cups, saucers, and cake plates by an individual to be used in the Main Library's meeting room. Board members mentioned several contacts in the community for such a donati011. The sale of book bags to patrons in the Library was discussed with Board members approving such an idea, providing these bags do not contain any advertising.
