Chairman Homer Royer called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. The
Board discussed leaving the monthly meetings from May to September subject
to call.
Board members discussed some City Commissioners' feelings on the library
issue and a future referendum.
Discussion followed concerning reserving the present two library sites
by putting up two smaller libraries (porta-structures). Establishing an
endowment fund might acquire private donations to be used for library
construction. Mrs. Wickersham offered to make inquiries concerning the
legal aspect of establishing such a fund and will report back to the
Board on her findings.
Discussion ensued concerning the Coconuts Lounge site in Morningside.
Concerns expressed included:
1. Lounge would probably need to be rebuilt to accommodate library
usage.
2. The facility should be used for a recreation center rather than
a library facility.
The Board discussed again the possibility of using endowment funds for
construction of smaller libraries with the idea of going for a referendum
to expand the facilities later.
Discussion followed concerning; the possible donation of cups, saucers,
and cake plates by an individual to be used in the Main Library's meeting room.
Board members mentioned several contacts in the community for such a donati011.
The sale of book bags to patrons in the Library was discussed with Board
members approving such an idea, providing these bags do not contain any advertising.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
