on Sunday, October 19, 1980. In his letter Mr. Royer thanked ~Ir. and ~frs.
Adler and the City Commission for their part in the Main Library effort.
Mr. Royer noted that this effort is only a first step toward complete
library services for all Clearwater ci ti zens. Accomplishing that goal,
he said, will require great cooperation on the part of all Friends of
the Library, the City Commission, and citizens of Clearwater. Mr. Royer
expressed his regret in not being able to be present at the Dedication
Ceremony, but pledged his continued support and that of the Library Board
toward bringing about additional needed library buildings and services.
Ms. Gardner was asked to read ~fr. Royer's letter at the Dedication Ceremony.

Mrs. GG.tes noted that there is talk that the lease for Howard .Johnson' s

the Beach Branch Library could be expanded into the existing room now

occupied by the Chamber in the Memorial Civic Center. The Boord will
look further into this matter.
Dr. Lowenstein noted that the extension of library services depends
on the availability of personnel and the funds to employ such personnel.
He suggested that perhaps an auxiliary group might assist the Librarfims
in the future with expanded facilities and services. Mr. Royer agreed
that this might be served by the present organization of the Friends of
the Library. He'felt this would be another item for discussion at the
November Board meeting.
"
Mr. Krick expressed his regret that he would not be able to attend
the Dedication Ceremony, as he will be out of town.
The meeting was adj ourned at 9: 55 Nor.
