In Mrs. Zussy's absence, Mrs. Althea Andersen represented the Library staff. Mr. Royer presented a letter to be read at the Dedication Ceremony on Sunday, October 19, 1980. In his letter Mr. Royer thanked ~Ir. and ~frs. Adler and the City Commission for their part in the Main Library effort. Mr. Royer noted that this effort is only a first step toward complete library services for all Clearwater ci ti zens. Accomplishing that goal, he said, will require great cooperation on the part of all Friends of the Library, the City Commission, and citizens of Clearwater. Mr. Royer expressed his regret in not being able to be present at the Dedication Ceremony, but pledged his continued support and that of the Library Board toward bringing about additional needed library buildings and services. Ms. Gardner was asked to read ~fr. Royer's letter at the Dedication Ceremony. ~frs. Andersen reviewed the schedule of events for Sunday's ceremony and distributed flyers of the opening week's special programs. She read the list of dignitaries to be present at the ceremony and explained their participation in the event. Refreshments will be provided at the Reception for the AdleI's by funds from the Friends of the Library; Watson & Co.) Architects; Williams-Johnson, Contractors; and the City of Clearwater; catered by Bee Williams. Mr. Royer suggested beginning discussion at the November Board meeting of possi.ble \'I'ays the City Commission might finance addi tionnl libraries. He felt the Board should begin reminding the City Commission of their verbal commitments. Mr. Royer noted that 1981 might be a good year economically to "go for additional taxcs.1l Mrs. GG.tes noted that there is talk that the lease for Howard .Johnson' s Restaurant on Clearwater Beach may not be l'enewed, and that the Chamber of Commerce office on Clean~ater Beach is looking into the possibility of occupying that building. Dr. Lowenstein noted that the extension of library services depends on the availability of personnel and the funds to employ such personnel. He suggested that perhaps an auxiliary group might assist the Librarfims in the future with expanded facilities and services. Mr. Royer agreed that this might be served by the present organization of the Friends of the Library. He'felt this would be another item for discussion at the November Board meeting.
