Mr. John D. Melton, Paralyzed
Veterans Association
Mr. Reis introduced Mr. John D. Melton, a member of the
Paralyzed Veterans' Association and chairman of their
Architectural Barriers Committee for the Southeast. Mr. Melton
spoke of the number of handicapped and their needs. He stated,
that there were 125,000 handicapped in Pinellas County, of
whom 1500-1800 were confined to wheel chairs. He then outlined
their particular needs as to parking spaces, rest-room
facilities, entrances to buildings and elevator services.
Mr. Melton offered to make a survey of the Library building
from the standpoint of #s use by the handicapped.
