The regularly scheduled meeting of the Clearwater Library Board was held Friday,
July 11, at City Hall. TIle meeting was called to order at 1:40 p.m. by the vice
chairman Dr. Macdonald. Present were: Dr. Macdonald, Mr. Reis, Mrs. Moore, Mrs.
Johnson, Miss Byerst City Manager Mr. Merritt Steirheim and Mrs. Dubendorff rep~
resenting the Clearwater Junior Woman's Club.
The minutes of the June meeting were accepted as corrected.
Mrs. Biggs moved that the Board request abolition of the book rental system now
in use. Seconded by Mrs. Johnson and passed. In connection with this motion
the Board will recommended that circulation of previously rented books be lim-
ited to seven days with a delinquent fine of five cents per day.
Mr. Reis moved that the Board request the librarian to institute a reserve sys-
tern. Seconded by Mrs. Biggs and passed.
Mr. Reis moved that the Board request implementation of the following suggestion
from Dr. Sessa's survey: "The library should undertake an effective program of
interlibrary loan service to supply readers with books and information not avail-
able locally. The public should be encourage by the staff to use the service."
Seconded by Mrs. Johnson and passed.
~frs. Johnson moved that the Board request implementation of Dr. Sessa's recom-
mendation that "The present large collection of older fiction in the back of the
main reading room should be weeded of duplicate or multiple copies. The collec-
tion after weading should be moved to the stack area now devoted to current non-
fiction." Seconded by Mrs. Moore and passed.
