The Clearwater Library Board met on October 25. 1968. Present were members: TIle chairman made welcome the new members: Donald Macdonald, Elizabeth Hasbrouck, Johnnie Mae Moore and Pred Korosy. The board were pleased to have Mrs. Rudolph Henning and ~frs. Thomas Hagler present. Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved. Results of the non-resident library fee being raised were ,apparent even at this early date and there have been many refusals to renew library cards because of the boost from $2.00 to $10.00. Mr. Stierheim has asked the city commissioners to reconsider their decision. There have been fewer new registrations and also arising is a question of space because patrons are using material right in the library instead of taking it out. Again there was a discussion of the increasing population especially in the east of the city. This points 'up a need for enlargement and expansion there. Miss Byers distributed and explained in detail the statistical reports to the new members and visitors. The chairman told how the board was set up to receive and disburse money. There are two new girls employed in the main library and one at the east branch. This fills the quota at present. Mr. Killeffer introduced the subject of material being taken from the beach li- brary, especially the work of one author whose books consistantly disappear. y ~ nC:Al IlJSTOR~ (.()LtfCTtO~ ' . There is no insurance to cover this kind of loss and so arises what policy to use on replacing s~olen books, especially the most popular issues. A motion was made by Mr. Williams to use fifty dollars ($50) for replacement of lost material and to keep the new off of the open shelves of the Wickman Collection. This motion was seconded by Mrs. Filewicz. Book Week is from November third to November tenth. Mr. Williams made a motion to be presented to the city manager and city commis- sioners. This motion to the effect that five ($5.00) dollars would be a proper fee for the non-resident library card and that the board strongly recommends their reconisderation in regard to this decision. Mr. Killeffer seconded the ~otion. There was one objection. Mr. Williams expressed his thoughts concerning a school in the direct east section of the city. He stated that he feels there is need for school and li- brary to coordinate their facilities, making a combined investment plus a program of tip top services for the same number of dollars. The meeting adj ourned at 3: 2S. Next regular meeting would be November 15. Dorothy B. Akerman secretary \..-) rOCA( HI5TOR~ .
