The Library Board met on May 18, 1962 at the city library. Present were:
Reverend Coleman, Mrs. Filewicz, Mr. Weimer, Mr. KillefferJ Miss Byers and
lofrs. Akerman.
Mr. Weimer reported on the progress of the negroe library, saying it should
be completed in July. Miss Byers stated she is working on books and that
there will be around 2JOOO for researcll and 1,200 for juveniles. The plan,
which was submitted to the board, includes an area for magazines and papers.
The plans for the negroe library show a great deal of room for expansion and
can hold between 12,000 and 14JOOO volumes. There will be 6 or 7JOOO volumes
for the present. Lighting and seating arrangement are very important and
the plans show both to be well taken care of. This will give the people a
quiet place to read.
Mr. Killeffer reported that there were 25 or 30 books for the marine library.
The aim is for quality not quantity. The board discussed a stepped up program
for the marine library to start with, around 1,000 volumes. Apparently the
project is moving nicely and a suitable book plate is being designed.
A case with light in it is ready for the beach library Nagano display. A
letter of explanation will be framed and placed beside the large picture.
Figures for the new budget were presented, studied and a motion made and sec-
onded that it should be presented to the City Commissioners with the endorse-
ment of the board.

Mrs. Filewicz asked Miss Byers if local clubs could help in the library and
the board agreed it would be well to encourage the cooperative attitude in'
local and interested groups. This could mean sorting of magazines. books.
etc.
A decision was made to meet with library employees as the previous meeting
was cancelled. The date was tentatively set for May 28. 1962 at 8:00 PM.
Next meeting of the board will be June 15, 1962 at 1:20 PM.
