Minutes of Meeting of
Clearwater Library Board.
Present were: Mrs. Filewicz (chairman). Mrs. Ackerman. Miss Byers (librarian).
and fo.fessrs. Coleman. Killeffer. Williams and \qeimer (representing
the City Manager).
At the request of the chairman. Mr. Coleman opened the meeting with
prayer. at 1:30 PM.
At the request of the chairman. Mr. Killeffer acted as secretary pro
tern.
Minutes of the meeting of January 19 were read and approved.
The chairman introduced Mrs. Dorothy Ackerman as the newest member
of the board.
On motion by Mr. Coleman. seconded by Mr. Williams and unanimously
carried, the proposed by-laws will be continued as unfinished business indefi-
nitely. ','
Members commented very favorably on the list of books (acquisitions)
that appeared in the Clearwater Sun as suggested at the January meeting.
Miss Byers reported that action had been taken with respect to Mrs.
Sharpe as noted in the minutes of the January meeting.
Miss Byers reported on Registration. Circulation, Accessions and
Finances for the month of January. Report attached as Exhibit A.

The status of the Negro Library was discussed. Progress is being made
in the construction of the new building. in cataloging books to go into it and
in other ways. The unique architecture of the building was discussed and the
possibility of securing favorable publicity for both the Library and Clearwater
was discussed. No action.
Mr. Killeffer suggested that the Library might (n) accept donations
of specialized or technical collections from individuals to make these availavle
to others; and (b) display from time to time books by local authors. No formal
action was taken but the board seemed favorably disposed to both ideas.
After discussion the board agreed to meet with employees on the after-
noon of Wednesday, March 7, at 2:15 in order to promote mutual acquaintance
between board members and employees.
, The Chairman noted that the board should elect a new chairman at this
time and called for nominations. Mr. Williams nominated Mr. Coleman. Seconded
by Mr. Killeffer. No other nominations appearing, nominations were closed and
Mr. Coleman elected by four votes (Mr. Coleman abstaining).
Miss Byers reported that the Children's Room had now been completed
by the gifts of the Junior Women's Club, and noted that some of the Library fur-
niture has been refinished to match the Childrenls.
'~Library Week" will be April 8-14.
Miss Byers expects to attend the Library Convention in Jacksonville.

Question of accessions were discussed at some length with respect to

the offer of a painting by Miss Louise Kepple. gifts from Nagano andla yachting
collection by the Power Squadron and Coast Guard Auxiliary. Mr. Insco is to be
invited to the nex~ meeting re Nagano. Mr. Killeffer will clarify the status
of the yachting library matter.
Mr. Coleman spoke briefly asking the continuation of the good spirit
and mutual helpfulness of the group for the future.
The meeting adjourned at 3:00 PM.
