I , : I I i j . , ) , I I ,,' ':J~~f~\i::.';', , ' , , ''-,:.- ".~ -- Minutes of the Library Board A joint meeting of the Clearwater Library Board and the City Commission was held at the Ft. Harrison Hotel on January 26th. 1960. Those present were: Mrs. Filewicz, Mrs. Halmi and Mrs. Lokey of the Library Board - Miss Byers, Librarian, Mr. Stewart, City Manager, Mr Baskin J1', City Attorney and Mr. Weatherly, Mr. Insco, and ~lr. Amos Smith of the Commission, and Mayor Finch. ~Irs. Halmi asked that someone be appointed to act as laison between the Commission and the Library Board. Mayor Finch volunteered to serve in ths capacity. A brief report was given on the State Library Survey of 1958 by Mrs. Halmi. She stated that ten letters had been written to Library Experts. Mrs. Filewicz read one of the letters from Mr. John Hall Jacobs of New Orleans, giving references and stating his fee of $100 per day with expenses including transportation, board and lodging. The City Commission voted unanimously to hire him immediately. Mrs. Halmi also stated that a "Friends of the Libraryl1 program should and could be organized. Miss Byers agreed to cooperate with the Library Board in all projects. Mrs. Filewicz suggested that we ask the School System to work with us through Mr. Williams. The Commission and Board agreed to keep the present Library site, and to redecorate, remodel, and add whatever is necessary to the present building with expenses not to exceed $140,000. Mr. Stewart, City Manager, would'like to sit in on the meeting with the Architect. A call for bids will be made to contractors. Commissioner Amos Smith asked ir the Library Board needed any additions or re- vamping. Mrs. Halmi called attention to the fact that under the present City Ordinance, two members of the Board were to serve 1 year terms and the remaining three would serve 3 year terms, and that all five were appointed at the same time. Mayor Finch said that he would write to each member of the Board clarifying this matter. ' ~fiss Byers agreed to move the garbage cans to the rear of the Library building.
