The Library Board met on Nov. 16, 1956 for the final regular meeting
of the year, in the Juvenile Room of the Library at 4 p.m., with all members
present. A motion was made and carried to retain officers in their present
positions through 1957.
A motion was made (Martens) to have the secretary send postcards as
notices ten days prior to each regular meeting. Another motion (Daker) set
Jan. 8 as the meeting date for the first regular meeting of 1957, the group
then to return to the third Tuesday for the rest of the year.
Miss Byers told the Board that City Manager Sullivan had been very
helpful in getting the minimum pay raised to meet the needs of hiring new help.
She also reported, during a discussion of sewerage needs of the Library, that
an investigation had been made with the cost of changes estimated at $1800~ and
that Mr. Sullivan had approved the project.
She reported~ regarding the annex~ that work orders on heating~ light-
ing and painting would come through in approximately a week, and that needed
corrections to the heating system there were made to make it as safe as possible.
The heating system of the main building was to be improved -- would consist of
repairs to present system.
Miss Byers also reported briefly on a meeting of the Florida Library
Association executive board meeting which she attended in Gainesville.
The Board decided the old "radio building" would not be usable for a
branch~ and suggested a letter be written to the city declining the offer of

same. It was also suggested that an architect should prepare plans for a branch
, building, and Miss Byers was to try to obtain plans, specif~cations and cost
estimates which have proven successful for other libraries.
It was voted to invite members of the American Association of University
Women to attend the January meeting, in order that they might learn first-hand
the true circumstances under which the Library is operated.
