The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Miss Byers then gave a report on the condition of the Negro Branch Library. She stated that Mr. Moloney will secure figures on the cost of moving the building to house the Negro Branch. The streets around the new location are being paved. A discussion was held also on costs of getting the Library Annex'in condition for use. It is estimated that proper lighting will cost $500.00. A minimum of money will be needed for floor repair. A motion made and seconded (by Mr. Bayly) and was unanimously approved by the group, that a letter be written to the City Commission from the Board, to present an outline survey of the points of rehabiliation of the Library Annex. The preposed pay plan was discussed and the board members agreed that an increase in wages would meet with'their approval. I ",' ," I ,'\.'.~ ~ ,:~ ~ June 27, 1956 To the Board of City Commissioners City Hall Clearwater, Florida Gentlemen: TIle Library Board of the city, comprised of the members whose signatures appear below, has exhaustively studied the budget prepared by Miss Sarah Byers, City Librarian, whose services we wish to commend at this time,' and offers the following comments for your consideration: .1. The money allocated for use by the Library for the fiscal year 1956-57 can be made to serve our purpose only if we temper our present plans for vitally required expansion. 2. TIlis highly necessary expansion considering the growth of the community of which you are well aware, calls for utilizing the vacant space in the annex building immediately north of the present Library. The members of the Library Board request the privilege of meeting with the members of the City Commission at their earliest convenience to outline our proposed e~~an- sian in the annex building. 3. Until the foregoing plans are mutually approved. it may be necessary to use some degree of flexibility in reapportioning the foregoing budgetary amounts, and we are sure the City Commissioners will countenance such action on a temporary basis, with our assurance that any such reapportionment will represent the best judgment of all concerned with the Library operation. Please be assured of a full support of. all of us who are directly or indirectly responsible for the well-being and operation of the Library. We will look forward to meeting with you at an early date. * Chairman * * * e'. * !L\?CAl! RISl'6R'Y COLLECTION
