JIll.. .st.,ll!r ~llUl.. ~i"...rllllt January 20, 1949 The Board of Trustees of the Clearwater Public Llbrnry met for the first meeting of the year 1949 with all members present: Taver Bayly, Chairman, Dr. A. T. Cornwell, Robert S. Dixon, Mrs. Eugene L. Pearce, and Mrs. Julin Cox. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Mr. Bayly was asked to continue in the capacity of chairman of the . Board for tho ensuing year of 1949 an~~~aC10UsIY consented to do as requested. Members of the Board expressed great satisfaction with all the repairs, redecouat1ng, and Blterati6ns which have been effected on both interior and exterior of the library buildlns.~. Thaa11b- rarian was directed to write a letter of appreciation to the City Commission. The librarian was directed to indicate the desirability of construct- ing a permanent canopy above the front entrance to the library build- ing. It was decided that a new identification placard or plate should be selected and purchased for fue front of the building. Various types were discussed. At Mr. Dixon's suggestion it was concluded that om which a.llowed for changeable adjustments on tbat portion indicating the library's opening and closing hours would be best suited to the purpose. The librarian was advised to investigate styles and materials. I ;. t~ ,1 1 v At the request or the chairman the librarian presented G summary of the library's rinnncial status at the end of tbe calendar year 1948. A portion of ,this report was attached to the minutes. The report indicated that a littlo more than half the budget appropriation for the fiscal year 1948-1949 has been expended. ~n reporting the circulation statistics fOl,.the calendar year the librarian indicated that the sharp increa~es in the last several 'months could probably be traced to several natural causes, such as increase in the permanent population of the town, heavy tourist in- flux in the last month, and the addition to the library shelves of some types of material not h61'e-to-fore available to the pa trons, or would-be patrono.
