The meeting of the Clean\'nter Library Bonrd VIas held"on Dec. 18, 1942,
with ..lr. Bay17, cho.riman, Mr. Pe.:;tton, Dr. Corn':'ell, Jil.rs. Pearce, and
1.ir. Hendrix, city manager, Drossnt.
The matter of ralsin~: the salaries of all tho library rJ:',1ployees was
discus ~ed b:i' the l~!;}mbcra and the c1 tJiianager. J(lr. Hendrix drew atten-
tion to the fact that t~1ese so.laries are belo'l! those of employees" or
any other departmemt. It was further pointed out by several of the
members that the increased cost of living as well as the higher sal-
ary levels over the country due to war conditions makes lt especially
fitting at this time that these salaries be increased. Consideration
of the monthly expenditures u~ to date showed that the following in-
creases coulf be made withont altering the aIJJ1ual appropriation to the
library. The three employees now receiving ~50.00 per month each,
Ann Hortop, Adah LaBoone, & Violet Dow, shall receive an incra~se of
25% (or ~~62. ,1:0), and the thr.?s, Huth 3mi th Dorothy Grant, and ;;.arah
Byers, rec~liTL1g ~~70.00,. ~p75..00, and(~~25.00 resn6ctively, shall re-
c8ive an i~crense of lO~ (or $77..00, ~82.GO, % $137.~O). A move to

'fhe purchase of a sui tab10 H:emorial to ;/lrs. Owen, deceased librarian,
was considered. It was thought that the funds for this memorial,
donations to which were made voluntarily by citizens of Clearwater,
justifY' the purcha.se of a bronze plaque. Dr.. Cornwell composed the
following inscription: Annie S. Owen
