A meeting of the Library Board was held Thursday, May 17, 1935 at 3 P.M.
in the library.
Present: Mr. Bayly, President; Mr. Cornwell; Mr. Paxton and Mrs. Eugene
Pearce, who was recently appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation
of Mrs. Aiken.
After welcoming the new member, the president called the meeting to order.
Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Last month's bills were read and approved.
Librarian reported that the remainder of the lights were installed and proved
very satisfactory.
Librarian also gave a brief account of the Librarian's Convention which she
attended.
This being the first meeting of the new fiscal year; the annual report was
presented. This showed that of the $4,000.00. allowed by the City, $3,997.30.
had been used; and the budgetting of that amount was read. It was moved by ~Jr.
Paxton and seconded by Mr. Cornwell that this be accepted as read, and placed on
the minutes. The petty cash account was next presented, showing that $3,030.00.
had been taken in. (This amount included $63.87. paid by the schools for books
ordered with ours.) Our expenditure was $1,862.89, (Itemized on sheet) leaving a
balance of $167.99.
The total circulation of books, 100,403 was very gratifying in view of the
facts that so many of last year's members have been employed this winter, and that
the road was closed six weeks during what was in previous years, our very busiest
summer months. Of this total, 75,557 ''lere taken out by adults, 18,112 being non-
fiction. The children's department showed that 26,846 books were taken out, 8,902
being non-fiction.

We had 658 books given to us during the year.
169 books were discarded, being for the most part passed on to other needy
libraries.
About 400 magazines were added, 293 being accessioncd and filed.
959 new members registered, 61 of these being non-residents.
355 Temporary cards were issued to visitors.
Two double faced steel stacks have been added, each holding 850 books, a180
shelving under the south-west windows, capable of holding 530 books. In the child-
rens department, shelves holding 500 books were placed.
Board expressed satisfaction with these reports; proposed by Mrs. Pearce,
seconded by Mr. Paxton, that these be spread on the minutes.
A copy of the letter thanking Mr. Pavey, a former resident, for the gift of
328 books for the library, was read. President ordered this to be placed on the
minutes.
Painting of the inside walls was discussed. It was moved and seconded that
bids be obtained on this work.
Librarian reported that Garden Club had donated some more garden books and
the president, Mrs. Ruperti had generously provided shelving in the form of a
small bookcase, for such.
There being no further business, meeting adjourned.
