A meeting of the Library Board was held Thursday, May 10 '34, in the Board Room of the Chamber of Commerce. Present - Mr. Taver nay1y. president Dr. A. T. Cornwell. vice president, . .\ Mrs. Aiken, Mr. Herbert Paxton. President in chair. Minutes of last meoting were read and approved. Librarian rend reports of bills, Nov 33 to May 34 - approved. Annual report was then read and approved, also copies of letters sent to those . whose efforts in December had resulted in the sum of $100 being secured for the purchase of children's books. Librarian stated that owing to tremendous increase in all departments, she had applied in November for aid from F.E.R.A.. In April, this was granted, and Miss Ruth Boteler and Miss Sarah Byers being appointed, sharing the 16 dollars a week (9 + 7) Miss Boteler has served a year w'ithout pay and Miss Byers nine months. The Thursday closing was next brought up & Board decided that the library be closed each Thursday at noon from this date until Oct. 1st. At the request of the Board, Librarian gave brief report of Librarian's Con- vention, .which she attended in March by their permission. The terribly crowded condition of library was mentioned, but no action taken. It was also brought to the attention that the small box on desk, had brought in the sum of $59.40.. During the .year trial was made of the returning of the whole deposit of $2.00 to those taking out only rental books. This had proved sucessful, as also was the plan of 10C per week on non-fiction.
