"~ ~,.....,I Board of Directors, Clearwater Public Library, Clearwater. Gentlemen: I am now in my third year of employment with the Public Library. During that period you have voluntarily given me two increases in salary, which have been greatly appreciated, not only from a financial standpoint, but as recognition of my efforts to fill the position to the best of my ability. However, judged by present standards, the salary I am now receiv- ing is still inadequate. The average salary here in Clearwater is not high, but I know of none \ carrying the responsibilities of the librarian that is not considerably in advance of it. In addition, the hours of the Librarian include two evenings a week more then the usual hours put in by office women, yet $100 a month is the minimum for office positions of any responsibility. I know of clerks and stenographers with little training who are receiving as m~ch as I am. During the past year, I employed my entire vacation in study, and went to considerable expense, in order to better fit myself for this positionl I have endeavored in every way possible to discharge my dutues to the satis- faction of the Board and the public: I have not always been successful, of course, but I believe I may truthfully say that the library is in much better condition than when I took charge. There is now no confusion, and ~, Di>C?\t HISTORY I!OLLECTION ~iP ~i;:~ ' r~J::c' " " ?'~" . ~( .' t, , . _. . " , ~.~ ... '.' . '. , . ~ . '.;~, " , ' . yo." . ~~"':','" ' l'h",' ._ :.'., !,~,:"?, . Over twelve hundred new books have been access1oned; the library is steadily growing, and I do not need to tell you that responsibilities are growing also. Not wishing to appear unreasonable, I have already taken this matter up with the President of the Board, and at his suggestion, am placing it formally before you, believing that you, will deal as generously with me as in your power. Yours very truly, , ~" v n::iC'A"C HISTORY ,rwtUCTION :;>~ <:~ 'l; ..~... '1~_ '" ~. .....,.., Clearwater Public Library Board held its regular monthly meeting ~an. 4 - 1923.
