conversations basically kept away from city issues or business with
the following exceptions:
A comment was made by Commissioner Deegan that house
numbers/business numbers (building addresses)
were not readily seen, missing or unidentifiable along
Gulf Boulevard.
A bridge that had not been closed to traffic while a new
bridge was being constructed raised the question by
Commissioner Deegan of how Clearwater could accomplish
the same (referencing the Sand Key Bridge).
Were mangroves being planted along the Memorial Causeway?
Commissioner Deegan would check into it.
Referencing the Sea Oats/Sand Dunes on Clearwater Beach.
Commissioner Thom~s said it was an experiment that had
worked.
commissioner Thomas asked if there had there been an
environmental study done in the area on Tampa Bay behind
the Seville Condos. Commissioner Deegan didn't know.
commissioner Thomas asked if the city's traffic
study/count on S.R. 60 been completed yet. Commissioner
Deegan stated it was still in the hands of Peter Yauch.
Commissioner Thomas wondered if a meeting between staff
and the D.O.T. would be beneficial.
In ,an informal discussion, the .subject of drug
testing came up. commissioner Thomas asked if drug
testing was part of the application process for city of
Clearwater employees. Ms. DeGray thought it was only
mandatory for certain type of jobs such as police
officers, firefighters, etc. He indicated he would
research this issue.
commissioner Deegan asked how Jerry Sternstein's job
search was progressing. Ms. DeGray told him that Mr.
Sternstein had been offered the position of Executive

Discussion of the candidates, the interviews and tours
,took place from time to time and the comments are noted
in the "Candidate Summary" for the applicant.

The Commissioners said that additional candidates will be
interviewed at a later date. They will make the decision
on who should be interviewed by the city commission after
all interviews are completed. They asked if Ms. DeGray
would be available for taking the minutes since she was
familiar with the interview informat. Ms. DeGray thought
the request could be accommodated.
commissioner Deegan talked about the new suggestion boxes
that 'have been placed throughout the city buildings. He
remarked about the number of suggestions that had
been received. commissioner Thomas said he had not yet
received his copies.
The current retail recruitment program for downtown was
discussed. commissioner Deegan will be requesting the
notes and an update on this project.

Prior to each interview the following took place:
After introductions, commissioners Deegan and Thomas explained the
structure of the city of Clearwater t s community Redevelopment
Agency (eRA); Downtown Development Board (PDB); city Manager and
Economic Development departments; and the city commission and how
these boards/departments relate to each other and the function of
each. They explained further the role ~hat each of these would
, 'play in the new organization.
,They also explained to each applicant the interview process: Of
the, applications received, ten were selected for the screening
