Mr. Jerry Remlein, President

Dear Mr. Remlein:
Thi's letter is to inform you that we are in receipt of the, letter
dated 12/26/78, from P. L. Knott, Southeast Zone Manager, representing
Frledrich,Climate Master Division to Mr. Chuck Cleland of Naples,
Florida.
". The letter does not state that the water--to--air heat pump is approved
for its intended use. Therefore, the City cannot approve the unit as
we discussed by telephone November 3, 1978, at which time I stated the`
heat pump i?b talled for Mr. Greenwald's swimming pool located at
37 Midway Island in Clearwater did not meet the requirement of the
National Electrical Code, Article 110-2, Article 680-2, Article 110-11,
and Article 680-3, 1978 N.E.C. Mr. Draga, your electrical contractor
called me,on the'same date and agreed with my decision in rejecting the
pump in question. He told me he was going to contact the manufacturer.
I 'have not heard from him since that time.
On November 6, 1978, a Mr. Cleland called from Naples, Florida, identify-
ing himself as the inventor and distributor of the Friedrich Pneuaqua '
Model #V42-12 heat pump. I explained my views to him and he stated the
pump.was in the process of being submitted to Underwriters Laboratory
for approval. He informed me he was also going to contact the manufacturer,
for any and all information available at this time. I have heard nothing
further from him since his phone call. Since three months have gone by
with no new developments, Mr. Blanton, Building Director for the City of
Clearwater, has instructed me to write this letter informing you that the
heat pump installation be subjected to an Underwriters Laboratory field
test at your request or that you file an appeal before the Pinellas County
Construction Licensing Board Appeals Board upon receipt of this letter.
Thank you.
