BEAUTIFICATION COMMlTTEE Wednesday, October 1, 1986 The regular meeting of the Beautification Committee was held on Wednesday, October 1, 1986, at 9:30 n.m. at the City IIn11 Annex. Members present were Mrs. Eugenio Berry, Mr. Robert Bickerstllffe, Mrs. RUn Canan, Mrs. Ruth DuChntenu, Mr. Rand Knox, Mrs. Lisa Lanza. Mra. Phoebe HOBa and Nrs. Emma Whitney. Ms. Jacquelyn Smith wos excused. As there was no Chairman for the Committee, Mr. Bickerstaffe called the meeting to order. Mra. Ruth DuChateau nominated Mrs. Rita Cannn for Chairman. All members concurred in this action and Mrs. CanIm accepted the chairmanship. . The secretary approved os read. to the Committee. read the minutes of the September meeting and they were New members Mrs. Eugenia Berry and Mr. Rand Knox were welcomed Mrs. Canan reported that the appreciation letter for June was never sent out. She suggested it be redated and mailed this month. Mrs. DuChnteau explained to new members the appreciation letters ore sent to local establishments that have made efforts toward beautifying their businesses. Any member may suggest a business for recognition. Ms. Jacquelyn Smith has a short report on the downtown street cleaning which will be heard next month. Mrs. Whitney said she hadn't checked on Christmas 1987 but would have the report next month. Members were concerned about stagnant water on Pierce Street. After a short discussion Mrs. Canan asked Mrs. Whitney to call Sanitation to see if anything could be done about it. " A discussion ensued regarding pool enclosures for Clearwater. Mr. Bicker- staffe made a motion to send a letter to the City Commission that the Committee disapproved the fencing ordinance and it was seconded by Mrs. Whitney. Mr. Knox, said there were other ways to accomplish enclosing pools--location of the pool,. hedges or shrubs. screening, etc. Mrs. Whitney said the less complicated the better. More discussion followed and Mrs. Canan asked for those in favor of no pool enclosures. Motion passed with one "no" vote. In regard to landscaping on the Causeway medians, Mrs. Canan reportc~ she, called Mr. Bill Crown the head of a group called CLIC which was going to reland- scape the Causeway. Mr. Crown stated that he could no longer give time to the Causeway median project. He further stated that he had given the paperwork to 'Mr., Bill Kirbus who also said he was unable to continue and that the Committee ,would notify the Commission of their decision. Mrs. Canan suggested that we also inform the City Commission and as the City now has a Landscape Architect, have ,him prepare a plan for the medians. Discussion followed and Mrs. Whitney made :a motion that the City undertake the responsibility of landscaping the medians 'on, the Causeway. It was seconded by Nr. Bickerataffe for discussion. Several suggestions were made. to use the plans from the referendum. to have a call for plans and interested parties could submit one or use elements of all plans on file at this time.
