September 3. 1986 The regular meeting of the Beautification Committee was held on WedncsdaYt September 3, 1986, at 9:30 a.m. at the City Uall Annex. Members present were Mr. Robert Bickerstaffe, Mrs. L. M. Clark. Mrs. Ruth DuChateau and Mrs. Lisa Lanza. Mrs. Eugenia BerrYt Mrs. Phoebe MOBB and Ms. Jacquelyn Smith were excused and Mrs. Rita Canan and Mrs. Emma Whitney were absent. Mr. Ream Wilson was also i1'< attendance. As a quorum was not present, the election of a new chairman to replace Mikell St. Germain and other items on the agenda were postponed until the October meeting. Mr. Wilson updated members on beautification efforts around the City. Cleveland Street landscaping is being extended from Ft. Harrison to Myrtle Street. Thirty-six heritage oaks and twelve hollys will be planted. The City Commission has approved this project. " Mr. Wilson told the Committee of the renovations to Coachman Park to begin the week after Jazz Holiday if monies are made available. The grass will be killed and the narrow sidewalk removed. The park will be sodded and brick pavers ,6' wide will be installed. The City has put in a bid for eRA money for this re- development. 'The ceremony for the Tree Thoughts Program of the Chamber of Commerce was held last week in Coachman Park. Ten oak trees were planted and the commemorative plaque was unveiled by the Mayor. The new Coachman Park sign was also unveiled. ,The'City has an agreement with Barnett Bank for maintenance of the triangle in front of Howard Johnson's Restaurant for five years. The City will do the landscaping and Barnett Bank will have a small identification sign at the site. Landscaping on Memorial Causeway is waiting for a proposal by the group calledCLIC headed by Mr. Bill Crown. Eventually this plan will be brought to the City Commission for consideration. Mrs. Clark suggested wildflowers be planted in a small section on the south side of the Causeway or at Cliff Stephens Park. A mixture of six to eight different seeds could be planted 'to see how well they do in this area. Mr~ wilson stated that the St. Petersburg Times has installed irrigation and the City' planted sod on their property on the corner of Pierce Street and East Street.
