Mrs. Marti Folwell, Vice Chairperson of the Comprehensive
Long-Range Waterfront Planning Committee, welcomed those persons
present. She further gave the history nnd background of the
Waterfront Committee explaining that the bayfront plan is the
first major project of the Waterfront Committee.
Mrs. Folwell introduced the following people present:
Gordon McDougall - Save The Bayfront Group
Anne Garris - Beach Traffic Committee
Charles Wood - Parks and Recreation Board
Alan Bomstein - Clearwater Downtown Development Board
Jim Carpenter - Executive Director (Clearwater Downtown
Development Board)
Chris Papandreas - City of Clearwater Planning Department
Ream Wilson City of Clearwater Parks and Recreation
Department
Rita Garvey - Clearwater City Commissioner
Bill Justice- Clearwater City Commissioner
Cy'Paumier - Land Design Research, Consultant
Don Crane - Gee & Jenson, Consultant
Vito S. Nigrelli, Coalition of Homeowners Association
At, t'his.time, Cy Paumier gave a slide presentation of the
bayfroDt property as it exists and the possibilities for
,improve~ent of the property.

Dorothy Haml i n, - Agrees wi th the concept. Regrets the
loss of the bluff. Questioned how the people will cross
road. Questioned whether Calvary Baptist Church's
expansion plans will hurt the bayfront plan.

Colonel Morrow - Questioned the existing poor maintenance
of Coachman Park. Would like to see Seminole landing
improved.
o
George Cayley - Stated that Clearwater is using a good
process in going to the people first for their input to
the plan.

o Bill Sites - Questioned the alternatives and phases in
the acquisition of the bayfront property. If the Sand
Castle property is acquired, will Drew Street be
necessary? Is it possible to narrow if not close Drew
Street?

o Brenda Nixon - Questioned the width of the walkways in
Coachman Park and use of animals. Would like to see the
waterfall renovated. Bridge is popular for weddings.
Locate play area away from bandshell. Eliminate tennis
courts. Questioned the condemning of Sand Castle.
o John Saintclair - Suggest finding other ways of acquiring
Sand Castle property other than condemnation. Agrees
with the acquisition of Bie property.
o Mike Sanders - Would like to see tennis courts eliminated
or moved to create more green space continuity.

bench; i.e. restrooms/garbage.

o Woody Stearett - Agrees with preservation. Does not want
to see commercial areas on the plan. Bayfront needs to
be well planned. Feels the plan will pay for itself many
times.

o Mary McRay - Questioned how the boat slips will be
reserved. Likes the plan. Questioned who is ultimately
'going to decide on the plan.
, 0 ,Carshall Carlisle - Questioned how Memorial Causeway ties
into'the plan. Suggested the use of a people mover for
transportation from parking lots to beaches.
o Howard Peat - Expressed concern with the amount of money
that will be used to acquire the Sand Castle property,
the amount of money that will be used to complete the
plan, and who will be paying for the changes. Stressed
the need for maintenance of the park.
a 'Jean Homer - Commended the plan. Supports bond issue.
Would like to'mnke sure that all interested groups get
recognition for their work. Questioned if there will be
a central place to receive ideas for the plan.
Questioned if the newspaper will publish a notice.
o Bill Curtis - Questioned importance of commercial area on
the bayfront plan.
