As there were no additions or corrections to the April ~inutcs, Mr. Abray moved they be accepted as written. Motion seconded and passed. Neiqhborhood Beautification - Mr. Wil~on said the letter sont out by the Committee to homeowners associations regarding median landscaping is receiving response from the various associations. He has met with officers of the Island Estates Women's Club who will be planting annuals around the Island Estate sign. He also met with iJ representative of Morningsit.tc Mendows lIofficoWncts Association. The association first contacts the Parks and Recreation office as permission has to be granted to work,on city property. The Parks and Recreation office works with the homeowners association on plans anel materials. 'l'he association agrees to buy, plant and maintain the materials. Waterfront Plan - At this time Mr. Wilson introduced Mrs. Wray Register, Chairperson of the Waterfront Planninq Committee to members. Mrs. Register said she appreciated beinq invi ted to talk to the Conuni ttee and apologized for not in- cluding the Beautification Conuni ttee as a representative on the Waterfront Plan conunittee. She said a representative from the Parks and Recreation Board was inclu- ded' and thought that encompusscd everything from the Department. 'Mrs. Register gave the Committee a brief run down on the purposes and goals 'of th~ Waterfront Plan and said they had made their first presentation to the City on nCcember 15th. The Plan includes the area from the Seminole Dock through the Norman Bie property, and the front of City Hall and Maas Bros. The Causeway is not included. Key issues in the plan are: (l) Acquisition of key private property inCluding the Sand Castle site, lower Maas Bros. parking lot, WTAN and Norman aie property. (2) Consiueration of a boardwalk or promenade. (3) Dredging of Dunedin Pass. (4) New and expanded marina facilities. (5) Public transport~tion to anu from the beach. (6) Restoration of mangroves and seagrasses in Clearwater Bay. , J\ Mrs. Register said Gep. & Jensen of St. Petersburq were selected as consultants and a meeting of the Committee is scheduled for May 17 whore they will show their drawings. At this time I-Irs. Registor asked if members had any questions. Mrs. clark asked if the traffic problem was included in the Plan. Mrs. Ragistcr replied that it was a major' part of the plan and that their main problem is Cleveland Street which is also a St.:tte road. She said they arc hoping to have a bridge wi th ,walkways undcllloath. Mra. Clark also asked how the Ci ty was going to acquire some'of the property. Mrs. Register said the City has three methods of acquiring property, it is donated to the City, Bold to the City or condemnation. Chairman Rotllman inquired about the affect of opening up Dunedin Pass on the seagrasses and mangroves. Mrs. Register stated that they are working closely with the Department of Natural Resources and the Oepartment of Environmental,Regu- lation. Dr. Rothman stated he would like to soe cxtensi va plantings of seagrasses and mangroves incorporated in the Waterfront Plan. "'0' . .. .. ..r". ,. The Plan will be ready in July and the City Commission will accept or reject it. There will be a referendum on September 4. ,Mrs. Peat asked about parking and Mrs. Register said a parking garage is being considered. The Chairman thanked Mrs. Register for coming to the meeting and ,explaining the Plan to the Committee. ,Mr. Wilson reminded members of the dedication ceremony of Cliff Stephens Park on May lOth at 10 a.m. Mrs. Clark reminded members of the meeting of the CARL COIIUni ttee regarding Cooperls .point. A bus will leave from Clearwater Mall to transport interested persons to the meeting. Mrs. Peat made a motion to adjo urn the mee tillg and it was se conded by Ms. St. Germain.
