Beautification Committee v' September 5, 1979 The regular monthly meeting of the Beautification Committee was held at the City Hall Annex, Clearwater, FL at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 5, 1979. The meetinq was called to order by Bernard Panush, Chai~man. Members in attendance were: Bernard panush, Phyllis Phillips, Al Price, D.C. Snoyenbos, James A. Martin, Jr., Bill Sapp, Connie Lundeen and Virginia Custer. Excused were: Robert Thompson, Don Alexander and L.S. Sweat, Jr. Also in attendance Were: Bill Voght, Nursery Division Superintendent and Mr. Ream Wilson, Director, Parks and Recreation. Minutes of ~e previous meeting were approved as sent. Mr. panush introduced Mr. Bill Sapp, new member of the Committee. Mr. Sapp is with the County Parks and Recreation Department. Sallie Parks, Executive Director of the Pinellas Arts Council was the speaker. Mrs. Parks gave a brief history of the formation of the pinellas Arts Council. The council was founded in 1976 as an outgrowth of the Bicentennial Committee. Fifteen members, appointed by the Doard of County commissioners, are appointed in December and serve a four year term. The council is a state agency created to . encourage the promotion and support of the arts. Outreach programs assisted by the Council include Channel M~rkers for the Blind, school systems and various theatrical, musical, historical and visual arts groups. " The Clearwater-Artist-in-Residence program was explained and Committee members made aware of the procedures followed to select the artist. To date artists have been selected in areas of sculpture, batik, filmmaking, and printmaking. An important de- termination in selecting the artist is not only the type of art to be displayed, but areas in the City suitable for the work and exposure to a great number of residents. Mrs. Parks encouraged members of the committee to serve on the council and also on the PACT Board. Connie Lundeen offered to serve on the council and James Martin, Jr. will serve on the PACT Board. Mrs. Parks suggested members De thinking about the type of art, sculpture or visual enhancements suitable for the future PACT building. ' Connie Lundeen gave a report on the conditions at the Marina regarding refuse and trash. A letter will be sent to Tony Shoemaker with some suggestions from the Committee and requests for a solution to the problem. Mrs. Lundeen also presented statements concerning the street ends on Clearwater Beach. A copy will be sent to members and 'discussion on the subject held at the next meeting. Mrs. Custer made a motion the meeting be adjourned, second by Al Price. Motion carried. . '.
