Beautification Committee

The regular monthly meeting of the Beautification Committee
was held at the City Ball Annex on June 6, 1979. The meeting
was called to order by the Chairman, Bernard panush. Members
in attendance were: Mr. Bernard panush, Mrs. Phyllis Phillips,
Mr. D. C. Snoyenbos, Mr. Al price, Mr. Robert Thompson, Mrs.
Connie Lundeen, Mrs. Virginia Custer and Mr. James A. Martin, Jr.
Absent: Mr. L. S. sweat~ b~B. Joanne Wolfe and Mr. Don Alexander.
Others in attendance were: Mr. Ream Wilson, Mr. Bill Voght and
Mr. Frank :Krame.
No speaker was scheduled for the meeting so that Committee
Chairmen could give status reports on their committee's
activities.
Vacant Lots: Mr. Al Price announced that the vacant Lot
Ordinance submitted by the Beautification Committee had been
accepted and passed by the City Commission. Discussion followed
concerning the property owned by Norman Bie and the possibility
of cleaning up the area. Mr. Wilson said he would ask Max Battle
about this matter.. Mr. Wilson will report at the next meeting.
'Downtown Development: Mr. James Martin, Jr. suggested the
Committee make a determination whether to support the recommend-
. at ions , of the Planning Department or the Downtown Development
,Board. It was moved and motion carried to endorse the proposal
of: :the Downtown Development Board and to correspond with the
CitY'Manager informing him of the vote. Mr.. Martin made the
motion,~ second by Mr. Price, carrieq unanimously~
Edgewater Drive: Mr. Voght reported all work on Edgewater
Drive should be completed during "the week of June 11th.

water;ront: Mr. Thomps,on reported the issue concerning the
bait house is still unsettled. Mr. Thompson requested a reply
from the City Manager regarding the report from the Committee
sent on November 13, 1978 as to recommendations as they per-
tained to the Master Plan for the development of the Bayfront
Parks. Mr. Wilson stated he would request a status report
"from the manager.

on May" 10, M.r. Martin wrote to Mr. paul Rettig requesting
information reqardinq the pumping Station at Pierce 100.
In December 1978, Mr. Martin had written Mr. Rettig who
1:urned the mat.1:er over to Mr. Phi 1 Janocha. Mr. Janocha
had not replied to Mr. Martin. Mr. Rettig advised Mr. Martin
he had forwarded the letter of May 10 to Mr. Paul Kane. Mr .
Wilson said'he would look int.o t.his situation and report. back
to the committee.
Mr. Martin inquired from Keith Crawford, Traffic Engineering
. uDirector, about, the harnesses for Christmas lights on Mandalay
Avenue ~ Mr. Crawford confirmed the existence of the harnesses
and stated that he needed, the manpower in order to put the
power. 'on the side of the street which has none.
Discussion followed concerning the recognition of Mr. steve
Gerakios"Clearwater High School teacher, responsible for the
,landscaping'and beautification of several projects at. the
'school. ' It was decided to present Mr. Gerakios with a certif-
icate at one of our meetings and to send a letter of recognition,
wi~h~a copy to the School Board.
