05/04/1977 ... .-4....... .... , BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE /' V -- May 4, 1977 The regular monthly meet~ng of the Beautification Committee was called to order by Chairman Frank Krame at .9:30 A.M't May 4, 1977, at the City Hall Annex, Clearwater. Members of the Committee in attendance were: Mesdames Phyllis Phillips, Mary E. Stieneker, Juan~ta Anderson and Messrs. Frank Marchiselli, Frank Krame, Donald B. Alexander, Robert McMichael,' George Tice, Russell Fourman, Richard Follett, and Albert P. Rogers. Also present were Messrs.: Eddie C. Moore, Parks & Recreation Director, William A. Voght, Nursery Superintendent, and Alan U. Sm~th, Parks Superintendent. EDGEWATER DRIVE - Mrs. Anderson said the Edgewater Drive Association .luncheon held this past month was moot successful in that the Mayor, Mrs. D~ Blaker, Mr. Floyd and Mr. Paroby attended and offered their support and now realize this as a project and are prepared to do whatever they can to complete it as soon as the mid-year funding has been approved. The Engineer~ng Department went out and made a~ a~alysis of actual costs. Mr. Moore said the esti~ate for curbing and beach erosion was $32,000 and beautification was under $5.000 so together it would be somewhat less than $37,000. The first thing to be done would be to complete the erosion and beaut~fication is second. · I:) The Board of Realtors donated $500 to be utilized toward the cost of the Welcome to Clearwater sign, and the Beautification Committee is most appreciative of their donation. Mr. Rogers asked if the type sign for Edgewater had ~een decided and Mr. Voght said as the Committee had previously appro~ed, the'sign will be rustic in nature with a single panel stating simply "CLEARWATER" and will be similar in design to the one presently at McMullen. Mr. Follett suggested the grass looks awfully dry on Edgewater Drive. Mr. Smith said the blades on the mower had been raised three inches, and Mr. Voght said the watering of the sprinkler system had been increased to three hours per n~ght and three hours per day per section. . CLEARWATER BEACH - Mr. Krame said he went to Clearwater Beach l,ith Mr. Keith Crawford, Traffic Engineering Direct~rt and Mr. Moore far an on-sight inspection to view the traffic flow and pattern. Directional signs will be placed one block before you reach the end of the causeway saying South Clear- water Beach and North Clearwater Beach. Anything placed on the causeway will have to be cleared with the Department of Transportation. It was decided no names will be placed on the sign--just directions. Members of the Associa- tion who are businessmen can print ~outh or North on their &tntionery instead 'of having signs that are too ,small or too much to try and read while driving. Planters, are not feasible along Mnndalay Avenue unless parking is elimi- nated or changed. " ' he wanted to compliment Bill Voght for the flowers on very nice it looks_ Everyone attending the meeting ,..... 0'.' , " Mr. Krame introduced Mr. John Meeks, a director for the Chamber of Commerce and serving on the committee for oeautification of the downtown area, 'who 'spoke regarding needs for the causeway beautification. After much discussion, Mr. Tice made a motion that the Beautification 90mmittee endorse and cooperat.e with the Chamber of Commerce in recommending beautifying the causeway. 'Second by Mr. Follett and carried. Mr. Moore said Memorial ' Causeway is the top priority in our Department. Mr. Voght said we have planted annuals in conjunction with the beautification effort of the Chamber of Com~erce to "Pull a weed and plant a flower". Mr. Meeks asked for help in beautifying Memorial Causeway and necessary allocation of funds be given to' keep this up. I, TREE GIVE-AWAY - Mr. McMichael said the Clearwater-Largo-Dunedin Board of Realtors in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Times and Garden Clubs are haVing their fifth annual tree give-away on Saturday, May 28th, at the City Nursery, 901 North Saturn Avenue, from 9:00 A.M. until the 1200 trees to be given away are gone. ~ . ., .
