01/05/1977 BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE / - January 5, 1977 , " The regular monthly meeting of the Beautification Committee wos called to order by Chairman Frank Krame at 9:30 A.M.) January 5, 1977. at the City Hall Annex, Clearwater. Hembers of the Committee in attendance were: Mesdames Mary Stieneker, Juanita Anderson, Phyllis Phillips and Messrs. Donald B. Alexander, Richard Follett, Frank Krome, Albe~t P. Rogers, Frank Marchiselli, Russell Fourman and George Tice. Also present were Messrs. Eddie C. Moore, William A. Voght, Alan Smith, Lynn Ahlgrim and Gi1 Whitton. Minutes from the December I. 1977, meeting were approved as mailed. Chairman Krame introduced three guest speakers, Mr. Robert East, President of the Clearwater Beach Association, Mr. Donald Simpson, President-Elect of the Clearwater Beach Association, and Mr. Santa Casella, City Planning Department. Chairman Krame said he attended the recent Commission meeting and Resolution #76 was approved relating to organization of the Beautification Committee. Mr. Robert East outlined the things requested in the letter sent to the Beautification Committee on December 8, 1976, from the Clearwater Beach Association to beautify the downtown section of Clearwater Beach from Mandalay Avenue between Raymont Street an the north and Marianne Street on the south. The Beach Association is grateful for beautification of the new tennis court area. Shuffleboard courts are requested for Mandalay Park. The :~Bociation desires to o~included in the proposed 1977 Capital Improvements Program planned '~ the City. Lighting and decorations between Marianne and Bay Front are requested during tbe Christmas holiday season. Clearwater Beach residents regard themselves as a vital part of the economy of the City. Mr. East said merchants in the Beach business area have complained about unsanitary trash cans over the week-end. This matter will be referred to the Sanitation Department. Mr. Moore indicated his department will assist in every possible way to enhance the attractiveness of Clearwater Beach and requested Mr. East p~ovide suggestions in this respect. Mr. Simpson asked if Clearwater Beach could have landscaping similar to the waterfall and berm which is located an South Fort Harrison Avenue across the street from the courthouse. He suggested the Bite formerly proposed for the Marine Science Center. Mr. East requested an electrical sign be erected for Clearwater Beach with directional arrows for motel and shop accommodations. Mr. Rogers suggested the Marine Science sign in front of Howard Johnson's should be removed since that is no longer the chosen site. Mr. Tice moved the Beautification Committee approve a resolution suggesting the City and Beach Association representatives meet jointly to determine the projects far improving tbe attractiveness of Clearwater Beach. Seconded by ~~. Alexander and carried. Mr. Simpson requested all communications be directed to Mr. Robert East as he will be Chairman of the Beach Association Committee. . Mrs. Anderson read a letter signed by Chester A. Martin, President of the Edgewater ~rive Association addressed to Mr. Tony Shoemaker regarding benches, sidewalks and pier. , Mr. Alexander said these requests have been presented to the City Commission, and it isn't possible to know as yet since these things have not been funded.
