" . :,:,'.'0.'.1 , '. 1'.; " Beautification Committee March 6, 1974 ,/ I The regular monthly meeting of the Beautification committee was oalled to order 9: 15 am.lldn the Parks & R(t:creation offices, III North Fort Harrison. Those in attendance were Messrs. Al Rogers, Chairman: Don Alexander, F~ank Marchiselli, Russell Fourman, Frank Schebler, Arthur Kruse, Bob McMichael, Mrs. Mary Stieneker, Miss Grace Smith. city Staff members in attendance were Messrs. Eddie Moore, Tom Shepard, Alan Smith and Patrick Tracy. Those not at this meeting were Mrs. Juanita Anderson, Messrs. Larry Lord and Forrest Watson, Jr. Minutes of the last meeting were approved as received by mail. Discussion was held on St. Petersburg Times Tree Give-a-way Program to be held Saturday, May 18. The Realtor's Give-a-way is on National basis the week of April 21 - 27. Clearwater's day will be Saturday, April 27, from 9 - II at 901 North Saturn Avenue, the site of the new City Nursery. There will be a total of 2800 trees given away. St. Pete. Times contri- buting 1800 and the city approximately 1000 more. T~e are six (6) types of selected trees for the program. Missouri Avenue Medians. All work has been completed on this project with the exception of the planters. The project will be finished this week. Cost to be submitted to Committee next meeting. Bicycle Rest Stops. Discussion was held. The first rest . stop will preferably be on Memorial Causeway. The Beautification Committee would like to go on record as appreciating this offer and will cooperate in any way possible. Approve gazebo-type construction on Memorial Causeway as starter for rest stops for b~cyclists. . Ramping of bikeways now in progress by Public Service Department under Paul Kane. Signs have been placed in the east sector of Clearwater. Cuban Laurels. Original plans of placing 10 trees around city Hall and remaining on Edgewater Drive has been altered. There are actually 20 Cuban Laurels to be moved from City Hall to the City Nursery site. Committee asks that if these trees at some time in future can be used on Edgewater Drive, please do so. . City Engineer, Max Battle, presently establishing bulkhead ]De of Edgewater Drive. will have land from curb to bulkhead line. New Nurserv. Mr. Moore suggested Bill Voght, city Nursery- man, be asked to attend Beautification committee meetings. Com- mittee approved this request. Mr. Voght will attend meetings amongry City Staff members. Parks & Forestry will be moving into new nursery as soon as work on gates and water have been completed. ..,. ' The Beautification committee has a new member, Mr. George Donatelli. Mr. Donatelli has been sent letter of appointment to the Committee, however, could not be present at this meeting. Mr. Marchiselli will contact the persons owning property across from C6ve Cay with regard to donating some of the small trees mn this property. Mr. Rogers will take Pat Tracy personally to see trees on his four acres in Tarpon Springs. Will donate trees if they can be used. For the Beautification Committee's information: City Manager, picot Floyd, has instructed the Crest Lake Gardens 'Committee to work through Michael paroby, Assrt City Manager. Tom Shepard has obtained blow ups for distribution to Department Heads .on crest' Lake plans. Park Benches. Harbor Oaks and Turner Street need painting. Mr. Moore asked the committee to please submit a list of those benches needing repair, replacement or painting.
