"t' .. v BEAUTIFICATION MEETING MINUTES The regular monthly meeting of the Beautification committee was held in the Parks & Recreation offices, 111 North Fort Harrison, 9 am, Wednesday, Januar~ 2~974. Motion was'made to accept the minutes of the December 5 meeting as received by mail. Motion carried. .. Those in attendance were Albert P. Rogers, Chairman: Eddie C. Moore. Parks & Recreation Director; Ream Wilson, Assistant Parks & Recreation Director; Alan Smith, Parks Superintendent: Patrick Tracy, City Forester; Messrs. Bob McMichael, Frank Marchiselli, Russell Fourman, Frank Schebler, Arthur Kruse, Miss Grace Smith and Mrs. Juanita Anderson. Absent were Messrs. Tom Shepard, Larry Lord, Forrest Watson, Jr., Don Alexander and Mrs. Mary stieneker. Mr. Rogers reported on the status of the Poole property. There are still technicalities to be worked out. Mr. Rogers will attend a meeting with Mr. Poole's lawyer immediately following this meeting. Further reports will be given next meeting. () .... Crest Lake. Tom Shep~rd is presently working with these plans dividing them into segments for presentation. The plan is to present the plans to one of the city Manager's Administrative Assistants for assignment to individual city Departments. Action cannot be taken on Crest Lake until approximately March 1, 1974. Mrs. Anderson received a letter from the President of the Audubon Society regarding destruction of nesting places of wild fowl around Crest Lake. Mr. Wilson reported he also received such a letter and has written to the Audubon Society explaining that our Parks crews mow the banks around Crest Lake twice a year. They do not go into water ,'or destroy nesting places of the birds. Edqewater Drive. Monies budgeted in the Capital Improvement Program for Edgewater Drive beautification are $30,000 for 1974 and $10#000 for each of the next three years, totaling $60,000. Crest Lake was budgeted $15,000 a year for the next five years in the capital Improvement Program. It was clarified for the committee that Clearwater's jurisdiction of Edgewater Drive begins at Union Street. The Parks crews are to be commended for their continuing good work on Edgewater Drive. r) Improvements have been made on Charles Street this past week. Concrete was put in to help curb erosion. 1'" . Vandalism of the sprinkler heads has been corrected. Sand Key. Discussion was held. Have not received definite orders as to this property as yet. Hiqhland Avenue. Bicycle paths have been constructed on the West side. Paths run west of the Florida Power Easement to the Bay. Will be taking,out the last slab of sidewalk" eventually, and rampi~g down instead of having curbs. Mr. Wilson and Keith crawfprd, Traffic Engine~~, yisite~Gain~sville where this system has. been put into use and is quite sUccessful, not only for cyclists but for the handicapped. These bicycle paths are approximately 6-8 feet across. asphalt. " Mrs~ Anderson informed of a Holly tree at 1202 Keene Road that the City may abe able to secure as a donation. The tree is in the way of Keene Road widening. Patrick Tracy reported Mr. Weimer and Mr. Kruse are working on substitute trees for the Cuban Laurels at city Hall. This work needs to be done as soon as possible as this is proper time of year for moving the trees. The Holly trees originally suggested have proven unsatis- factory. as they stain concrete with their fruit and are non-water so~uble. It is hoped some of the Cuban Laurels can be used on Edgewater Drive. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned 9:50 am.
