BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE MEETING

The regular monthly meeting of the Beautification Committee
was held at 9:00 a.m.
on October 10, 1973, in the Parks and

Recreation Department offices, III N. Ft. Harrison AVenue. Motion
was made by Don Alexander to accept the minutes of the September
meeting. Motion seconded and carried. Those in attendance were:
Chairman Albert P. Rogers, Messrs. Bob McMichael, Frank Marchisalli,
Arthur M. Kruse, Frank Schebler, Russell L. Fourman, Donald
Alexander, Eddie C. Moore, Parks and Recreation Director: Ream

Shepard, Landscape Architect7 Mrs. Mary Stieneker, Miss Grace Smith,
and Mrs. Juanita Anderson. Those absent were Mr. Howard Lawrence,
Mr. Larry Lord, Mr. Clark Palmer, and Mr. Forrest Watson.
Chair.man Rogers read a letter of resignation from Mrs. Raymong
M. Gordon, Clearwater Garden Club and Mrs. Stieneker was i.ntroduced
as .the current repre~entative.
Chairman Rogers brought to the atten't:.ion of the Committee the
lateral transfer of Mike Kenton'as Environmental planner under the
Planning Depar~ment. Discussion was held. Mr. Kenton was asked to
remain as a member of the Committee.,
Chairman Rogers: Discussion was held on the proposed bikeway

Edgewater Drive: Mr. Kruse gave a brief report. Chairman
~ Rogers stated he has met with Mr. Rivesr lawyer for the Poole family
and progress was being made in that direction.
Downtown Development Committee: Chairman Rogers has been
invited to meet with this committee on December 10 and will report
back to this committee.
crest Lake committee: Mr. Kruse stated Mrs. Stieneker from the
Beautification Committee had been appointed to work with the Crest
Lake Committee. He stated a Master Plan had been made and reports

have been prepared. The Crest Lake Committee is being held in
abeyance at the present time, until after the new City Manager is
officially present. Mr. Smith, Parks Superintendent, stated he

was working with Traffic Engineer Keith Crawford in improving the

moved and sevoral sites were being considered. Chairman Rogers was

inclusive of Largo, Dunedin, and clearwater now has 1200 members and

Chairman Rogers stated that an Awards Committee has been
. established by the Board of Realtors and awards would be given to the
best landscaped project on Highway 19. These will be awarded during
IIRealtor Week". Committee consists of Frank Marchiselli, Realtor,
Ruth Bush, Dave Sellers, Mrs. Mary Stieneker, Clearwater Garden Clubr
,Tom Shepard, Professional Landscape Architectr Alan Smith Parks
Superintendent; and as ex-offica member Albert P. Rogers. An a x 10
color photogeaph will have to be submitted of each of the projects.
Chesapeake Villas Park: Tom Shepard exhibited preliminary plan
for this 4 acre park. Park is located in East Clearwater. Discussion
was held.
Arthur Kruse left to attend another meeting at 9:50 a.m.
Kings, Highwa-y:: An architect has been selected, Mrt. George C.
Haddox.
McMullen Park: An architect has been selected, Mr. James F.
Gleeson. Parks and Forestry Divisions of the Parks and Recreation
Department are clearing the area. Progress is being made.
