" "j old Business: .. , Tree Give-a-way program: Held during the month of August, co-sponsored by the St. Petersb~rg Times, Board of Realtors and the Clearwater parks and Recreation Department was a success. The traffic becam~ a problem and this snuation will have to be considered. ',1 , The Largo Recreation Complex seemed to handle the situation better. The St. Petersburg Times is encouraging another give-a-way program in the spring 'of the year. Discussion was held. Mr. Eddie Moore .' ~ asked thnt the Board of Realtors inquire of individuals owning , . ',: C,' . . ~ " ' Page Two, Beautification committee large tracts of land and having donations of trees or shrubs to contact the Parks and Rocreation Department. Our inspectors will estimate the value of the donation which can be used for tax purposes, if accepted. Trees will be used in our Street Tree Program. chairman Rogers asked for this proposal in writing from Mr. Moore in order that action could be taken. Chairman Rogers . stated he has received from the National Association of the Board of Realtors information which indicated they are supporting this program. Pamphlets entitled "Let's Green America. II National recognization will be given to cities participating in this event. .i ) ':.' Mr. Russell Fourman I j moved that a committee of five be appointed by the Chairman and , . a .report be presented at the next meeting. Motion seconded and carried. Mr. Moore: city Commission has approved the Missouri Avenue Median Strips. . These consist of three sections from Druid Road to Lakeview. Mr. Alan Smith reported the plant materials "have been ordered and work is being done on the remaining materials to,be purchased. Page Three, Beautification committee .' t-1r. Moore: KinQs Highwav Project, city Commission has -- approved construction of a neighborhood center on the five acre tract. The City Commission is to appoint an architect for this project at their meeting next week. Mr. Kenton stated a few trees remain on:\the property that could be used for beautification. Tom Shepard: Proposed Clearwater Beach and Recreation Marina complex. Stated the Yacht Club building is to be razed and presented plans (two sets) for utilization of the complete property. Florida Power property is proposed as the recommended plan if the property is available. If this property is not available, an alternate plan was shown. Discussion was held. Mr. Rogers: Ed~ewater Drive Beautification. He will meet . , I with Mr. and Mrs. Poole, Sunday, and their attorney. Monies involved~ approximately $7,500. This includes property - Union and Edgewater along with the dock, but does not include submerged land. Papers are being prepared. He will have a full report at the next meeting. Mrs. Anderson stated trash and debris is being dumped in the area. Mr. Murphy spoke as a member of the Executive Board of the Edgewat~r Committee stating they have tentative approval of the expenditure of $1,OOO towards beautifi- cation of that area. Final approval will come from their Committee on October 15, if this project is to be completed in the year of 1974. Mr. Murphy will meet with the Edgewater Committee and ." Mr. Don Alexander stated that before any plans could be established or proposed for the. area that the city Engineer would have to be contacted with regard to dumping rip rap to halt erosion and also establish the bulkhead. Mr. Rogers .' . will meet with Mr. Battle, city Engineer, and report at the next meeting. Mrs. Anderson stated she had been contacted by Mr. cutter, Internal Improvement Board.
