the matter had been given more consideration. It was suggested that the DOT should

the City Manager, had studied the maltor of SiIJn3 tinct that the Committee's l'ecom-
.' mendations paralleled tho rccommc,md.:sticms of the recently published book 'Street
Graphics'. 'He also roported that Uw CiLy Sign Inspector, hirEJd last year, has been
of enormous help in the regulation of signs throughout the City, that without his
work and 'in fluence I the work of the Committee would hove been much more diffi-
cult. The Inspector is a former Vlashington, D, C, policeman with a wonderful
personality who has been able to persuade firms to either 'tone down r or decrease
the size of proposed signs voluntarily. He mentioned that the book I "Street Graphics'

is being held up until the employment of a landscape Archi,tect to draw up some plans
