Mr. Nicholson raised a question about the use of educational incentive money which is
provided to Firefighters and Police Officers under Chapter 633 of the Florida Statutes. The
money that Police Officers receive for having an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree is considered
when computing pension; for Firefighters it is nolo Mr. Nicholson would like to recommend to
the Trustees that they change this policy so both Firefighters and Police Officers' are treated
alike.
Cynthia eHman, Personnel Records Specialist. asked jf this was the law or a rule. Mr. Nicholson
stated it was his belief that this was a matter of interpretation of language and the' definition of
,salary in the Firefighters' policy. It was suggested that Mr. Laursen contact the Legal
Payroll Division to determine why this is handled this way before any further
'action is taken.
