Mr. Harvey returned to the meeting and Mr. Nicholson advised him that the decision made today was not final. It would have to go to the Trustces and won't come up until the Committee devises a policy. A lengthy discussion ensued concerning Mr. Hcbert's proposed job. Page 3 With respect to thc request of John Greiner, Survey porty Chler, Public Works De p n r t men t, no new information has becn received. Mr. Laursen had sent a memo to Mr., Greiner suggesting he contact him but to date Mr. Laurscn has not heard anything. With regard to John Ferzola, the rctired Firefighter who was sent n ICHer regarding his pension eligibility, Mr. Laursen advised the Committee he had spoken to Mr. Ferzola and was told that his disability still exists. The telephone call Mr. Laursen rcceivcd was from a neighbor that has had problems with Mr. FCr7.o1a. This ncighbor tried to stan a body shop in his yard and Mr. Fcrzola reportcd him to the county. This information elln be verified. Mr. Lance stated if there is no clear evidence that Mr. Fcrzola is no longer disabled, the matter should be dropped. The consensus was to take no action. The Committec considercd the request of Donna Kelly, Librarian II, Libraries De par t m en t, to vest her pension. Tom Pudelski moved that this rcquesl be approved. The motion was duly seconded by Glenn Perry and carried unanimously. Mr. Nicholson advised the Committee that it had come to his attention that pension contributions will be subject to income tax in the near future. This applies not only to the employee's contribution but the employer's contribution and the interest the money earns. This is a provision under IRS Code 415 and has applied to private pension plans for some time. It now will apply to public pensions as well. Mr. Lance suggested the best way to find out about this would be to contact a local congressman. Mr. Nicholson wiU try to find out more about this but in the meantime has asked Mr. Laursen to check with the Finance Department.
