The meeting was called to order at 9~4S A.M.
Tom Pudelski moved to approve the minutes of tbe meeting of April 4, 1990. The motion was
duly seconded by Glenn Perry and carried unanimously.
The committee had received a copy of the procedures and guidelines submitted by Mr. Laursen.

letters were received from Deborah Patterson, Meter Reader I,
Division, regarding her request for a job-connected disability pension.
In regard to Eddie Volland, former Building and Maintenance Superintendent,
Building & Maintenance Division, he met with Mr., Nicholson. Mr. Laursen, and Mr. Lance
last week and advised them he would not pursue his request for a job-connected disability
pension. This information was relayed to the Pension Trustees at their last meeting.
Mr. Voiland will accept the non-job-connected disability pension which was approved
previously by the Committee and the Trustees.
Discussion ensued concerning the Pension Entitlement Forms which the Committee members
received at the last meeting. Mr. Perry and Mr. Pudelski reviewed the forms and found many
were, incomplete. Mr. Pudelsld had a problem with the instructions for completing Section 3
regarding disability pensions. He felt the form needed to be updated.
Mr. Laursen suggested the employees be sent another fonn with a letter advising them if the
completed form is not returned within 30 days the pension checks will be held. Discussion
ensued.
At the conclusion of the discussion, Mr. Pudelski moved that a letter be sent certified moilt
return receipt requested, to those who have not returned the form or returned one that was
incomplete advising them that if the completed form is not returned within 30 days the next
check will be held. The motion was duly seconded by Glenn Perry.
Mr. Laursen asked for clarification as to whether this was a recommendation to the Trustees or
'whether the Committee wanted this done. Mr. Pudelski made this 11 recommendation to the

W i1h respect to the request of John Greiner, Survey Party Chief, Public Works
Dc pur t men t. Mr. Laursen had advised Mr. Oreincr by Icttcr that his doctors' letters were

J tlscph DeSantis, Police Sergeant, Police Department, addressed the Committee to
request an extension of the 60-day time limit he has in which to repay his pension
comributions. Sgt. DeSantis advised the Committee that a deal feU through on the sale of some
property; therefore, the money he thought he would have is not availablc. He stDted he is 7 II2
months away from being able to vest his supplemental pension and in December will be able to
lIse this pension as collateral for a loan. He asked that he be given an extension until
December but if the money is available before then he will pay it. In addition, he will pay
money out of his paychecks until that time. It was suggested his attorney could meet with the
City Attorney and work out a written agreemnt. A lengthy discussion ensued.

~;,( At the conclusion. Tom Pudelski moved that Sgt. DeSantis be given a 45-day extension of the
~..': May 6th deadline at which time a decision will be made as to whether the money should be paid

W:,:;." Discussion ensued concerning the eligibility of John Ferzola. former Firefighter, to continue to
'~'J> :', receive a disability pension. This mauer was brought to the attenticn of the Committee by
.:~_ Mr. Laursen when he received a phone call concerning Mr. Ferzola. Mr. Perry suggested a
~ letter be sent to Mr. Ferzola asking him to attend the next meeting of the Committee.
~,~:, " Mr. Pudolski agreed. Mr. Pudelski stated that disability pensioners should be required from

. The meeting' reconvened at, 10:32 A.M.
Mr.: Nicholson addressed the letter. he received from Attorney General Butterworth in response
to the Committee's question as. to whether the City' Commission could serve as Trustees of the
Pension Fund. . Mr. Butterworth. stoted in his letter the Committee could only request opinions
as to its position and not other agencies. Mr. Nicholson would like the Committee to. discuss this
.at the next meeting and then ask the Commission again to request an opinion from the
Attorney' General on this issue.
