The meeting was called to order at 9:43 A.M.
Tom Pudelskl moved to approve the minutes of the meeting of November 16, 1988. The motion was duly
seconded by John Nicholson and carried unanimously.

'Tom Pudelskl moved to accept Into membership the five (5) employees listed above. The motion was duly
seconded by John Nicholson and carried unanimously.
:~::' Peter Vilardi, Police Recruit, was sent to Dr. James Cates for an X-ray of his back. This report was not
;~"', ':included in' his physical examInation; therefore, he will be considered for acceptance at a later date upon
:~"::'~ .' receipt of this report.
John NICholson stated the cover lelter used for pensions must be changed to reflect the elimInation of the
45-year age limit. The consensus was to delete from the letter the reference to being under the age of 45.
The letter for James Wingender was amended to reflecl thIs change.

Wlt~ regard to Dennis Babinl. Tom Pudelskl referenced a letter from Cynthia Cllman containing a computation
, , for Officer's Bablnf pension effective date. His last day of work will be January 2t 1989." His, pension will be
.. effective on February 23, 1989. Officer Babinl wlll resign and collect his job~connected disability pension.
,':<,", He will not be allowed to continue working for the City of Clearwater In any other capacity, but he will seek
\:':'" ,employment with some other agency. He Is aware he cannot worl< In a simllar job to that from whlch he Is

t:~{~~orn :Nicholson addressed a recent article from the City fief/actions In which th? City Manager referenced a
;:' ,~roposed change In the Pension Plan from a defined benefit plan to a defined contrlbutlon plan. As a member of
\',::': 'the pe'nslon Advisory Committee, he Is opposed to any change In the current plan. Several employees receIve
:'~':' " benefits from the State due to the type of pension plan we have now. These benefits would cease If the plan were

: r:-... changed as proposed. Tom Pudelskl spoke with several members of the F .C.P. On a person-to-person basis,

Mr. Nlchol'son also stated there are other reasons for' not changing the plan. He feels the City should
concentrate on the changes recommended by the Pension Rewrite Committee.
Mr Nicholson also, thinks the Pension Advisory Committee should consider the possibility of hiring private
legal counsel since the AssIstant City Attorney represents the Interest of the City and the City Commission, and
not,the employees and the pension plan. Tom Pudelskl has dIscussed this with the Union, and Its member
concur with this recommendation.
