The meeting was called to order at 9:32 A.M.
John Nicholson moved to approve the minutes of tbe meeting of January 6, 1988. The
motion was duly seconded by Charles Dunn and carried unanimously.
John Nicholson read the name(s) of the following employee(s) to be accepted into
membership in the Pension Plan:

Charles Dunn moved to accept into membership the one (1) employee(s) listed above. The
motion was duly seconded by 10hn Nicholson and carried unanimously.
Frederlc:lc ,Woodard, Firefighter, appeared to find out his status with regard to his request
for a. job-connected disability pension. Committee members questioned whether Dr. Lyster
. had' received the results from the new tests he had requested. Mr. Woodard informed the
Committee he had hand-dclivered the reports to Dr. Lyster's office. Chairman Dunn told
. Mr. Woodard the' lettcr from Dr. Lyster, dated January 8. 1988, still made reference to the
need for further tests. Dr. Lyster appears to be vcry uncooperative in this matter.
After some discus'sion, it was decided by the Committee to send Mr. Woodard to another doctor
for an examination. Nancy Degner, City Nurse~ will schedule an appointment for
:Mr. Woodard and forward, to the new doctor all of Mr. Woodard's repons. When the report is
,; received from this doctor, ,8 decision will be made by the Committee.
Caty Singletary. attorney for John Welch, requested this matter be removed from the
agenda until a full Committee is present. Mr. Singletary had some questions concerning the
procedure used for holding a full hearing in this matter and who will pay any expenses
. incurred. . Secretary Laursen stated it was his opinion the expenses should be divided
between the Pension Fund and Mr. Welch. Mr. Singletary could not commit bimself to this
.:. . hearing without discussing the matter with the panics involved since it may become quite
f\'CJ .:COSUY. This malter will be placed on the agenda' for the next meeting of the Committee.

The Committee will meet again on Monday, February 1, 1988. and Wednesday, Febroary 17.
1988. at 9:30 A.M. .
Reference was made to the Committee's request concerning the method used by the Police
and Fire Department when presenting employees with the tlno smoking" agreement. ,The
Commhtee members were advised that both Depanments explain to new employees how
important this condition of employment is and the consequences for violation.
Chairman. Dunn asked the City Nurse whether she had completed the letter which will be
sent to: doctors when an independent medical examination is requested. She did not have it
with her. Secretary Laursen expressed his desire to sce the letter upon completion.
,Chairman Dunn questioned the status of Lenard Dixon's pension. Miles Lance, Assistant
. City Attorney, stated no suit bas been filed. However, someone from Gulfcoast Legal
'Services, who represents Mrs. Dix.on. received copies recently . of all the papers the Legal
Department has in this matter. A question was raised as to whether or not the monies
should 'be put aside. Miles Lance stated the monies are still in the Pcnsion Fund and are
. earning interest.
