Proceedings of the Pension Advisory Committee Meeting of November 3D. 1987 Page 2 With regard to William Widner. Firefighter. Chairman Dunn questioned why this matter was before the Committee again. In September Mr. Widner was sent to Dr. DICosta for an independent medical examination Thereafter. he was advised by Assistant Fire Chief Meyer tbat tbe Fire Depanment received a letter stating Mr. Widner should return to work or go out on a regular pension since he was not disabled. Mr. Widner stated he is confused about recent developments and came to this meeting to find out exactly what his standing is at this point. John Nicholson questioned whether or not Mr. Widner has reached maximum medical improvement. Drs. Slomka and Seik felt relief could be achieved with medication. but this medication did not work. The only other alternative is surgery. Chairman Dunn stated the Committee will take no action since nothing has changed since this pension was approved. If the Trustees remand it back to the Pension Advisory Committee (PAC). then something will be done. Mr. Widner will have to wait to see what the Trustees do at their next meeting. J Secretary Laursen questioned Chairman Dunn as to why the Committee has accepted letters in. the past that were not addressed directly to the Committee but now is insistent tbat Mr. McBride's letters be addressed to the PAC. John Nicholson wants a letter sent to the Trustees asking them to contact the Attorney General for clarification of an opinion that the City Commission cannot serve on two board. i.e. City Commission and Trustees of the Pension Plan. Secretary Laursen will take care of this. Chairman 'Dunn stated it should be a policy that all doctors' letters should be addressed directly to the Committee from now on. The meeting adjourned at 11 :35 A.M. Respectfully submitted. '-~~ ,.', ') Personnel Director an ,,' ..........
