The meeting was called to order at 9:42 A.M.
John Nicholson moved to approve the minutes of the meeting of August 13. 1987. The
motion was duly seconded by Michael Stuan and carried unanimously.
John, Nicholson read the names of the following employees to be accepted into membership
in the Pension Plan:

,Physicals were submitted for Jeffrey Outwater and Eddie Hunter in the Parks and ~ccrcatjon

, " '. Committee deferred action with regard to these two employees pending submission of
, updated physicals since those submitted arc over one year old.
John Nicholson ,moved to accept into membership the four employees listed above and defer
action ,on the other two employees pending receipt of updated physicals. The motion was
duly 's~conded by Michael Stuart and carried unanimously.
,Chairman Dunn advised Car)' Singletary. attorney for John Welch, that Mr. Welch had
, 'appeared attbe last meeting to have the effective date of his pension changed and it had
bc~n approved.
Mr. Singletary advised the Committee he has arranged for Mr. Welch to have updated
examinations by three doctors. Afield. Gutierrez, and Machler. Prior to the next mceting,
letters will be submitted to the Committee: and it will be decided at that time whether :1
. "hearing is necessary.
The Committee again considered the request of Vernon Washington. Tradesworkcr II.
Public Service Division. for a non-job.connected disability pension based on high blood
pressure' and' kidney problems. Chairman Dunn and John Nicholson both spoke with Dr.
Suchar who advised them Mr Washington would not improve.

Michael Stuart moved to approve Vernon Wnshinglonts request for D non-job.connected
disability pension. The motion was duly seconded by John Nicholson and carried
unanimously.
Secretary Laursen advised the Committee Frederick \Voodard. Firefighter. had contacted
him. Mr. Laursen referred him to the City Nurse to obtain the names of some doctors who
specialize in his type of disability.
Wilh regard to Lenard Dixon, Secretary Laursen presented to the Committee a copy of a
letter from Robert Zens, Esq., attorney for Ella Mae Dixon. He recommended to the
Committec that since there is a question as to which spouse is rightfully entitled to this
pension, the mailer be referred to Miles Lance, Assistant City Attorney. Mr. Lance will
research this matter.
The Pension Rewrite Committee win meet with the City Commission on Tuesday, September 1.
1987.
The Commiuee considered the request of William Hebert for a job-connected disability
pension based on his he an disease. Cary Singletary, attorney for Sgt. Hebert. addressed the
Commiuee. Letters from two doctors were submitted on Sgt. Hebert's behalf. The Committee
also had requested an independent medical examination of Sgl. Heben. The lctter from
Dr. 'Abernathy stated stress was a contributing factor to the heart disease.
,Charles Dunn moved to approve William Hebert's request for a job-connected disability
pension based on the medical evidence receivcd from the three doctors. The motion was
duly seconded by John Nicholson and carried unanimously.
,Secretary Laursen questioned whether this motion was based on the "presumption" law or
the medical evidence. The Committee members stated it was based on the medical evidence.
, Th~s pension wilt be effective October 1, 1987.
'John ,Nicholson requested Secretary Laursen send a letter to Chief Davidson advising him of
the need for John and Van Honon's attendance at the meeting on September 1st at 7:00 P.M.
Tina Wilson, Payroll Services Manager. questioned whether there was a change in the
effective date of Christopher KingsJeyts pension. His last pay was sometime during the first
week of August.
The meetings for' the month of September will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 1987, at
9:30 A.M. and Wednesday, September 23, 1987, at 9:30 A.M.
Chairman Dunn requested a copy of all doctors' letters received on John Welch be sent to
, theCommittec.
The meeting was adjourned.
